Too many self inflicted wounds in the game tonight. This Spurs team, when at full health, has very little margin for error. When you remove Poetl and they do way worse on the boards, they have even less of a margin for error. They shot well enough to win tonight, but they gave away too many extra possessions to the Mavs. The Spurs were 43-88 to shoot 49%. That should be good enough. The problem is the Mavs were 40-93 (5 extra shots) and 21-29 from the FT line (Spurs were 15-20). The Spurs will not win many games where they give up 9 more free throws to go along with 5 more shots than the Mavs. Too many offensive rebounds and about 5 too many TOs (Spur have 5).

Pop can't keep playing Forbes if he wants to win games. Nothing he brings to the table is worth how bad he as at defense. Any spacing they get is not worth it at all. This teams iden y has to be non stop defense and Forbes completely ruins that.

Spurs obviously have to win the next game.

That's the beauty of it, he's not tanking at all. He's just literally one of the worst coaches in the league

He gets them motivated enough to play hard but is the worst in game coach in sports....

He literally doesn't even know that challenges exist, top 5 pick here we come baby!

The sad thing is we’ll have the first top 5 pick to play in the g league.

If something doesn't change how we run this team after Popovich retires, we're gonna be the clippers for the next 30 years. This has to change. The players look like they're miserable and we coaching is terrible.

and another frustrating game ... cannot agree more with the broadcast team that Vassell was completely forgotten by his teammates while Bronson and Boban cooked and got the ball to score more

really would have liked to see Londale in this game ... Young now is televising his backdoor passes and they all get picked off ... useless

that block by Eubanks was one of the best I have seen ... props to him!!!

    just wondering...
what about our 2-5 record and double digit loss pounding where we gave up 131 pts with Poeltl (to a 1-6 team) made you feel we weren't already done?
    then continue to wonder ...

A lob pass catch and shoot play with 2.7 seconds left? Either Pop has completely lost his mind or he’s tanking. I hope he’s tanking.
Lob pass of hope. Still in disbelief thats what he came up with or just a inexperienced pass by Keldon.

I think Keldon panicked about running out of the 5 sec inbound timer.

Keldon definitely struggled getting the pass around boban. Then came the desperation heave with no timeout

So disappointed in Lonnie. What contract does he expect to earn with this kind of play? It’s like he’s unmasked himself as the true IG baller with all his talk and workout videos on social media and nothing to show for it.

Pop seemed to be playing with fire with McB out there on the perimeter at the end. I *think* he was trying to "bait" them to have Brunson take the shots instead of Luka, which in the abstract makes some sense, but Brunson was playing better than Luka, so not sure about that one. Haters will think Pop was just being senile. I think he was just being too clever as he often does.

Keldon is not who I'd want to inbound the ball, maybe Young instead?, but the team is learning so perhaps in the big picture this is all just what we need to expect.

The game was close and exciting, and so I'm still digging the style of play. Overall, I'm impressed by Dejounte giving it his all and continuing to improve. I was on the fence of trading him but he seems to be making great strides with his shot and his overall style of play in getting others involved. Kudos to him.

Walker. I missed part of the game. Dejounte any details in what you are seeing/not seeing with him?

Nah, people sold themselves on an all star level Derrick White but this is literally who the dude has always been.
never understood why ppl were considering a 27 year old injury prone guy who never averaged over 15ppg to be the future of the spurs...there are rookies on better teams that average more than that...and that was his best year! he is a good starter on a stacked team, or a good 6th man...by no means is he a star...he isn't even an all star...ppl need to stop overrating the dude...there are several of you that were calling him untradeable...smfh

I'll have to look into their methodology. It has the best players at the top so it doesn't automatically fail.

The list says Keldon Johnson is the 8th worst player in the league right now, though. I don't think I buy that.

I know it's early in the season, maybe I'll check on this stat again in another month or so.

ing free throws and 3pt % is killing the Spurs this year. Glad to see them be compe ive in almost every game though. I hope these losses don't effect their energy levels for future games.

He's been pretty awful to be fair, though he isn't being put in a position to succeed.

Yeah, that's not ideal for one of our starters. And you can't even blame sample size.

For example, DJ is far and away our best player according to TPA, with Jock and Primo being 2nd and 3rd but in very limited minutes.

Meanwhile, both KJ and Lonnie are 3rd and 5th in minutes (respectively) and are still well into the negatives and some of our worst players (by TPA)

That said, according to this measure Poeltl has been our 6th best player and is barely in the positives, and that just doesn't seem to fit the eye test either. Poeltl has been working his ass off this season.

I don't think this list accurate measures impact vs. sample size, but something to keep an eye on as the season progresses.

Seriously. Start of this year is a success to me. We are largely compe ive against good teams. Player development, confidence remains high despite close losses. On our way to a top 10 lottery pick. Now if we could extract value from guys like White, Walker and Thad in the trade market i’d be a happy camper.

I mean, it's never a good place to be when losing is the best strategy

Maybe we get a lottery pick who busts, and it was all for nothing.

Been my argument for a long time.

Most of the people calling to tank seem to think that another Duncan is going to come walking through those doors. That's not going to be the case.

Otherwise, quit your ing and try to find a way to enjoy watching the Spur lose a lot of games.
