Landale needs court time. This is a multi-season professional who was key in a deep Olympics run. And by 'pro,' I don't mean a guy who has just picked up paychecks for several seasons.

So, Primo staying in Austin quite time is a bad thing... But from his development point of view or for the big club playoffs aspirations?

    Glad to see your return

Don't think Murray has hit his ceiling, but the parts of his game he needs to improve might not happen (off-ball play, spot up shooting). Also, in today's league being an all star doesn't neccessarily mean taking your team to the playoffs. Plenty of elite players on mediocre teams (Bradley Beal, SGA, Sabonis, etc) missed the playoffs. , Steph Curry couldn't even get his team to the postseason last year.

Don't agree with Poeltl not being a long-term starter. His defensive shortcomings thus far are things that most players struggle with: having to guard Antetokounmpo, Jokic, and Davis. When he doesn't have to guard premier players one-on-one he's been great.

White looks off physically to me (and others). Hopefully he rounds into shape. Agree that he needs to be more aggressive scoring.

Lonnie's frequent disappearing acts have been annoying; he looks like the same player as last year. At least he seems to have more good games than bad games.

McDermott has been better than I thought defensively (not by much), but he doesn't move as well without the ball as was advertised imo. His shot doesn't look as good either.

Agree mostly everywhere else (Keldon, Vassell, Eubanks, KBD, Young, Jones, Forms, Landale, Primo).

Been alright with Pop thus far, but he seems hesitant to use his coach's challenge at all (or forgets he has it altogether) and is all over the place with his use of timeouts.

Small sample size, but 538's Raptor rates McDermott as among the 5 worst defenders in the league. Forbes is close too. And both are net negatives in offense too. Yuck!

It feels like McB is sort of forgotten on the offensive end. I like that Dejounte is prioritizing the PnR with Yak more, but tge coach and team should involve McB more.

Really enjoy reading your grades but how can we get those type of overall scores and we're a 33% win team?

I know it's relative but it also seems like we're grading with homer-googles. Compared to the league we suck.

The Poetl defense remarks don't pass the eye test imo. I'm not sure what the stats say but if anything he's ben more elite this year IMO.

Unfortunately compared to the rest of the league we are really average. Not good enough to challenge for a ring, but don’t suck enough to grab a top pick.

Agreed! I think it's pretty fairly and firmly established that he's not a good defender or rebounder, so if he's going to get minutes without incorporating his efficient offensive game, he'll just wind up being a huge net negative-- as he is currently by almost any metric.

Welcome back timvp and thanks for the excellent writeup!

About Poeltl, and the starter vs backup point, it's clear from those stats, he's much better than the typical backup center in the NBA. If the Spurs could somehow get hold of an even better center, as starter, with Poeltl as backup, that would be a sweet situation. The problem being, as always, where and how to get such a player.

    Great grades timvp.

I found them more enlightening than even the fine grades you do after each game. (The one-game sample size sometimes seems a bit too small.)

Have you considered doing the grades on a weekly basis (almost like the weekly football polls). You could also recap the week's wins and losses.

That might be less work for you and create a better product as well.

It might also create a sense of anticipation for their release on, say, a Sunday or Monday.

Time for Jock for 2nd C.

Plays hard, intelligent, doesn't mind getting physical and can shoot the 3.

    Seriously, Eubanks

I like Eubanks "bull in a china shop" mentality but overall I'm way more intrigued by Jock's skillset and believe he should be ahead of Eubanks in the rotation with what I've seen from Eubanks thus far this season.
