Kindness and empathy are not enough. Did you even read the interview?
Eyup. I thought I would keep it simple to keep your head from exploding though. You're welcome.

Feel free to offer any substantive comments about her assertions. By all means. You would be the first.

I haven't read her book so can't really offer any substantive comments but pretty sure from her interview I've got a similar approach. My kids are being raised the same way I was raised. Be kind to others, be respectful to others, do no harm to others, and stick up for others who are being picked on.

What? Those are qualities exclusive to the blue pill group, I know this because they never stop insisting they are.

First rule of anti-racist parenting is to tell your black son to watch out for whitey.
And then move to a predominantly white neighborhood because it makes sense to move places where you fear for your life every day. Perfect logical sense.

Have black men been killed for running through white neighborhoods?
Yes. Black people have been shot while in black neighborhoods too. I know they have been shot in Hispanic neighborhoods and Asian neighborhoods. So why move to a predominantly white neighborhood if you never feel safe there?

    Sure, I guess.

Is it really an either/or? Why not both? Helping one kid does not mean that we can't help two, or even all of them.
Sure...in cases where it's possible. But in either/or situations or limited resource situations, look for the parent to always favor their own child.

You just demonstrated there is no safe place for them.

I lived in a predominately black neighborhood when I was in Kansas City. Very little crime and we had a great community. There is at least one safe place.

So have I, and in another part of the country than you listed. 90% of residents there were good and hard working people. These neighborhoods exist.

I guess words no longer have meaning:

"your children are just as important to me as my kids are to me" - if any of you really believe this statement, I have some ocean front property in South Dakota to sell. We are not talking about helping some kid who falls off his bike. To me, that statement is impossible. Even most animals have the instinct to care for their own (over others).

Let's cut to the chase: she most certainly believes certain demographics have privilege and that they likely deserve less help than others.

There's a matrix of concerns and they don't all fall neatly to categories. She could be living in a white neighborhood because that's where the best services and schools are. She could still think her child is in danger of being targeted for the color of his skin. Just imagine growing up in a rural area where the only other humans you see outside of school and work are your neighbors 5 miles away, when they drive by twice a day. That would seem safer than living in town, but you still go to town to get supplies, to go to school and to see the doctor. If you decide to live in town because the school there is better and you want your child to have access to better things, that doesn't mean you don't also acknowledge the dangers. You just weigh them against the benefits and decide. This seems pretty simple.

"empathy and compassion for others is impossible"

For conservatives, yeah. I think you generally fail miserably at both.

"My husband and I (we’re white) have a 2-year-old daughter and are doing our very best to be anti-racist parents. We’re making sure she has lots of multiracial dolls, only consumes books and TV shows with diverse characters, has no problematic Halloween costumes, and so on. But when we try to discuss issues like structural racism, intersectionality, or White fragility, she doesn’t seem at all interested. She often walks away, asks for a cookie, or even falls asleep! Have we screwed up somehow? Has society’s disdain for the perspectives of marginalized people already infected her? How do we get her to appreciate the urgency of the conversation around deconstructing white supremacy?

    Dear ARM,

As the mother of a Black daughter, it terrifies me to know that you are raising a little Klan-member-in-training who cares more about chocolate chip cookies than chocolate-colored people. Clearly, she has already proven that she is problematic beyond repair!

My suggestion to you is that you put this child up for adoption. You’ve done all that you can, and she has shown you who she is. If you don’t get intersectionality by the age of 2, you never will. Use the money and resources that you would have spent to raise this future segregationist to instead care for a child from a marginalized community; the mommy blogs can be very helpful in terms of determining which nationalities are on trend this season, though I warn you that you’ll likely have to shop domestic due to COVID.

Don’t worry too much about your ole daughter—she’ll probably land on her feet. Good riddance to bad rubbish. It was kind of insensitive for you to be raising a white kid during a time like this anyway.

Is Slate treating that like a real letter?

What kind of idiot wouldn't see the obvious trolling happening there? (Other than Darrin)
