Gobert only has 1 block but seemingly changed at least 20 others…
The kind of thing you don't see in a box score.

Poeltl has a similar effect, just not to quite the same extent.

The stat I usually see for this is opponent's FG% at the rim with X player as the primary defender. I'm trying to find it but I can't remember which site had that.

Duncan used to impact the game defensively the same way.

Those clips remind me of a younger, more athletic version of veteran Rudy Gay, if that makes sense. A modern 4 who can drive and shoot the 3. He's come a long way since his rookie year. Yeah, definitely someone to keep an eye on.

(And damn, how many 3s did he make?? I lost count. Must have been at least 8.)

A young Rudy Gay is exactly what I had in mind. It’s the perfect prototype for today’s NBA and a good fit for this Spurs team lacking in the ISO department (and young enough to mold into a player who won’t be as selfish or as bad on defense as the actual Rudy Gay)

Against the Jazz you need all 5 out there defending. You cant have any letups or breakdowns.

Jacob was the biggest letdown too often not doing anything. He did have foul trouble to worry about all game but thats seems to be the trend against the likes of Gobert. What's fustrating was when the opportunity was there for him to make an impact he hanged back on D and was soft on offense .

KJ and Doug didn't help much on that end either. Cutting corners and not hustling enoug on help.

While Jazz only had 6 blocks, Gobert and Whiteside probably altered some 20 shots. Our guys just played scared the whole game. It sucks that our starting center folds against capable bigs, too scared to draw the fouls because he can’t hit the free throws! Dunk the ball and draw contacts! Sorry but until Poodle starts getting aggressive inside, Spurs will always have trouble against teams with dominant bigs. Gobert was a sub-50% FT shooter but he worked hard to get that number up to 60+% and he used that tonight to get the Spurs in foul trouble which was the difference in the ball game. Jock would have to learn to play his back on the basket more if Poodle is unwilling. Top 10 center

Tony really appreciated Rashow for blocking out players to clear the path for Tony's layup

Doesn't show up in the stats of course

Felt like the Spurs tried to do everything at the rim this game...which is an interesting strategy going up against the likes of Gobert and Whiteside.

So many missed (or altered) layups and little 3-5 foot floaters. Snyder was using the old strategy of just giving guys runs to the rim only to hit a wall like the Spurs used to do with Timmy and DRob.

This may have actually been a better game to go mid-range (like we did when we beat the Jazz last time) or bomb away from three like we did against the Clippers and Lakers.

Either way, the Spurs didn't shoot well in any regard, they still have no answer for Gobert beside fouling him, and Clarkson went off. That seems to sum it up imo.

    Name 10 better centers.

The whole schtick of putting some stupid emoji at the end of something as if it gives your point any credence is so tired man. No one is saying Jak is going to lead a team to a championship. But he's a top 10 center. If you're wanting him to be a high flying dunking rim runner, then you're going to be waiting a long time. That's not who he is. He doesn't have the ability of a Clint Capella to do that.

Who says high flying? Start with dunk the ball. How many missed layups does he have? Did you see that high arching bank shot over Gobert that almost hit the top of the board? I don’t know what list you use, but he’s #24 on this behind Aldridge: http://insider.espn.com/nba/hollinge...s/_/position/c

Bruh, I don’t even need the list. Just eyetest and result, the guy scared against capable bigs. Did you see how Gobert takes everyone with him in the post to get fouled? Believe me just a little more training and Jock would be taking his starting gig. The guy constantly ask for the ball inside and punish his defender. Do you see the same fight on Poodle? Nope.

It was reported that a Spurs fan had a few "choice words" at SA's own, Jordan Clarkson, perhaps at the end of the game, & Clarkson had the fan ejected from the Center! Anyone else heard anything else about this matter?

Jakob is an elite rim protector and offensive rebounder and maybe the most impactful player on the team in terms of winning. Is he an all-star? No, and without significant improvement to his offensive game, he may never be.

But given his age and salary, he’s performing much better than what we could’ve reasonably expected out of him and there’s plenty of reason to be optimistic about where he goes from here.
