War could break out, sure. It's also possible Putin is trying to use the buildup for diplomatic advantage. Time will tell, prediction is a fool's game.
    Not being ready is worse.
Its possible Putin makes the decision based on the amount of kickback he gets.
The German's were already forced to shut down lots of money that would have gone to Russia and make energy this winter cheaper for them.
It is highly possible this would never have happened if his European partners and the US did not file strong objections to the supply line.
There is obviously much more that will make this sting more for Russian. Crimea was easy. This one gets more difficult the longer it goes on imo.

What is the point of sending 8500 airborne troops to Europe? Even Biden isn't stupid enough to commit limited American troops to a ground war with Russia.

Managing perceptions is a big part of what the US armed forces do. For example, that NATO is indispensable to the EU, or that the danger of war with Russia overshadows the profitability of increased economic ties with it, a possibility that Russia can hardly be insensible to.

Why would Russia invade the poorest and least stable country in Europe, driving the EU back into the arms of NATO and more dependent on the US, when it stands make so much money and undermine US geopolitics at the same time by furthering business ties?

Well, I'm sure they still remember WWII and want as much buffer zone as they can get between mother Russia and NATO.

Russia was an indispensable ally of non-Axis Europe in WWII. We didn't free Auschwitz, the Red Army did.

Europe (Germany in particular) can't really do without Russian gas. It may eventually decide US military materiel isn't worth the upcharge either.

I agree times have changed but a foreign army made it all the way to Moscow before they were stopped and Russia lost millions in the process.

So your working theory is that NATO wants to nuke Moscow from the currently nuke-free Ukraine.

How long would it take a nuke from NATO country Latvia to reach Moscow?

It makes no rational sense for either side to invade, but politics isn't always rational. Russia griping about NATO impinging on its sphere of influence does make some sense. NATO has gotten somewhat closer to Russia geographically since the late 1980s.

If Russia posted up in Mexico or Guatemala I'm pretty sure we'd have some grim sounding warnings about it.

It's roughly the same distance from the Latvian border to Moscow as the Ukrainian border to Moscow (~700km for both).

So according to your theory, NATO land nukes are already five minutes away from Moscow.

They should have invaded Latvia years ago according to your theory.

Weakened the US right out of its hegemony. Just gave it away.

Question pending. I'll repeat it since you deleted it:

Yep, sent that globalist straight to the to the trash heap. You're still mad about it I guess lol. Ol Joe is following the path he set . Might have to vote for him in '24 if he keeps it up.

I'm asking about his reasons for invasion; not whether he will invade. I don't think it will happen during the Olympics at any rate -- though I could easily be wrong, Commander Cosmic Cowboy. It could be argued that since the depots an hospitals can be detected, they would be necessary for a bluff to be taken seriously.
