No idea whether this guy is right or wrong on macro, but de-dollarization has been a minor motif since the war started. Economic sanctions are basically siege warfare under another name, there's no precedent for the scale of sanctions we've seen against Russia.
https://www.reuters.com/markets/asia...an-2022-03-08/China's central bank is uniquely placed to backstop a global commodities crisis sparked by sanctions imposed in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, potentially paving the way for a much stronger yuan, a Credit Suisse investment strategist said.
In a note published on Monday, Zoltan Pozsar, global head of the bank's short-term interest rate strategy, said the unfolding crisis in Ukraine had led to a "perfect storm" in commodities that could weaken the Eurodollar system, contribute to inflation in Western economies and threaten financial stability.
"This crisis is not like anything we have seen since President Nixon took the U.S. dollar off gold in 1971 – the end of the era of commodity-based money," said Pozsar. "When this crisis (and war) is over, the U.S. dollar should be much weaker and ... the renminbi much stronger, backed by a basket of commodities."
disgorging windfall profits for consumer and business rebates has been discussed in Spain as well
This is a difficult subject for me as I dont have the background.
But I would add that imo a person who has an interest in Swiss Banks and investment would not be happy right now as the Swiss banks hide blood money for all sorts of dictators and such. They have been called out loudly by all the Europeans and the US on not following up on sanctions properly. The tradition of staying neutral and profiting from disasters is not new. The Swiss were great at financing Nazi agendas while taking Ally money quite happily as well. They had to have drug money wrenched from their paws which caused drug lords to buy things instead of hiding it in Swiss banks.
And honestly Russia has the economy the size of Spain. But I imagine the Oligarchs are throwing a fit so publish something about stealing their money.
In all this I find myself asking where do people with $ think it is safe and you can get it back. China is a place without transparency or rules. The US is telling the world we are freezing money from oligarchs. And we ask others to join in. And the world is being told why. I dont expect this candid nature with China at all. We are actively telling people how the Swift banking system works. Educating the world on this. I would think this is more attractive than "our government will decide if you get your personal investment back" and without explanation. And then in turn be a huge investor in US Treasury bills.
The disturbing probability that Putin is getting isolated from reality in Ukraine
https://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-europe-60485967
Allowing these pictures with his own generals and Western leaders sitting at the other end of a giant table...
Imo Putin is under enormous pressure and is basically drawing his reality closer to Yes men.
This is very dangerous and we still have to deal with this guy properly. Apparently there are smaller nukes that are tactical and dont send near as much radiioactive material around that can be used. They have already trumpeted the use of hypersonic missiles which is a waste in a war like this has become.
IMo Putin is becoming more of a disoriented guy with a bunch of buttons to push militarily since the ground invasion failed miserably.
Russky goons deported 1000s of Mariupol citizens to Russia. What happens to them now? hostages?
If pootin loses, will they be repatriated, or imprisoned?
I wonder if NATO will finally call Pootin's nuclear bluff?
Kyiv must not fall.
Looks like pootin doesn't hold all good cards
Russian spy chief arrested, officials split over Ukraine invasion - report
Foreign reports have indicated that
Russian authorities are bickering over their invasion of Ukraine.
Russian authorities are split over their invasion of Ukraine, with a commander of the Russian intelligence service placed under house arrest,
Colonel-General Sergei Beseda, the head of the Fifth Service of the FSB intelligence service, and Beseda's deputy were being held under house arrest,
The Fifth Service was responsible for providing Russian President Vladimir Putin with intelligence about Ukraine leading up to the war.
"It looks like two weeks into the war, it finally dawned on Putin that he was completely misled.
The department, fearful of his responses, seems to have told Putin what he wanted to hear,"
The Wall Street Journal that the reports about Beseda being placed under house arrest were "credible," adding that bickering had broken out between the FSB and Russian Defense Ministry concerning the invasion of Ukraine.
statements by foreign officials indicated that
Russian authorities initially believed that they would be able to take Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, within a matter of days,
nearly a month later Russian forces have still failed to do so,
as Ukrainian forces put up a strong resistance and Western-aid pours in to the country.
"It is hard to imagine some senior intelligence person talking with Putin and not telling Putin what he wants to hear,
especially if it is a belief that is deeply held, like Putin’s beliefs about Ukraine."
FSB officers had searched over 20 addresses around Moscow of fellow FSB officers suspected of being in contact with journalists.
“The formal basis for conducting these searches is the accusation of the embezzlement of funds earmarked for subversive activities in Ukraine,"
“The real reason is unreliable, incomplete and partially false information about the political situation in Ukraine.”
whistleblower reports allegedly written by analysts from the FSB in recent weeks on his Gulagu.ru website, with one analyst writing
"now they are methodically blaming us (FSB). We are being reprimanded for our analysis,”
A number of additional Russian officials have been removed from their positions amid the war in Ukraine, including Gen. Roman Gavrilov,

Russia is risking the creation of a “splinternet”—and it could be irreversible
If Russia disconnects from—or is booted from— the internet’s governing bodies, the internet may never be the same again for any of us.
The European Union, in turn, is
seeking to all but wipe certain Russian outlets from the internet—
with guidance on new bans of state-owned RT (formerly Russia Today) and Sputnik suggesting that
not only should the sites be blocked,
but that search engines and social networks should hide delete any post repeating content from said sites.
profound splits are on the cards—provoked by action on both sides.
Russia has declared Meta (owner of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp) to be an “extremist organization” and
is withdrawing from international governance bodies such as the Council of Europe and
has been suspended from the European Broadcasting Union.
If such moves were replicated with the internet’s governing bodies, the results could be seismic.

Targeting of Civilians a Crime Under Geneva Conventions
As any qualified ethicist should know, targeting civilians during a military conflict is a war crime. The Geneva Conventions make that clear.

Elon Musk's Starlink connects Ukrainians to the world effectively
The billionaire's internet service is looking very good right now!
Thousands of antennas
Fedorov said his struggling nation has received thousands of internet antennas that are "very effective."
“The quality of the link is excellent,” Fedorov said through a translator, using a Starlink connection.
“We are using thousands, in the area of thousands, of terminals
with new shipments arriving every other day.”
