I can explain. The central bank jacked up interest rates to 20% and the government installed capital controls (meaning, you can't protect your savings by buying, say, dollars or euros, thus reducing capital flight risk).
What that means is that unless Russia has an annual inflation rate bigger than 20%, your invested money (in Rubles) will retain it's value, at least in the internal economy (once you have to touch imports, that's a different story).
Russia already tried to say it'll pay also for their debts in Rubles, and was also rebuked. That's not how contracts work.
The only concern with not being Rubles is if that money falls within the sanctions, in which case those payments could be frozen, but Gazprom is not, at this time, part of the sanctions, AFAIK.
And there in lies the reason why Russia is adamant on transacting in Rubles, it's because they control the currency and can't be seized or frozen. The problem is that it takes two to tango, and pretty much no country want to transact in Rubles.
This why the ruble has recovered,,,,

Talking about always wrong, here comes Bad Takes Hemisboomer
this is exactly what I said in my previous post. Russia is exploiting it's tight control on the currency market, and the fact that Gazprom has not yet been sanctioned (mostly due to Europe's pressure).
Now do tell me about their stock market...
That is what Nono said, you dumbass.
YOu say that is if there is a plan.
They aren't pulling back because they want to. They are being pushed back because UKR's military is killing them.
Putin may indeed drop one if UKR encroaches on RUS territory, which I doubt.
Second order consequences.
Consensus is that was due to an accident. Poor ammo handling procedures.
Inevitable when you start unpacking 50 year old ordinance.
I have zero doubt that UKR will be acquiring NATO weapons like Abrams after this is all over. Best way to keep UKR safe, IMO. Russian tanks suck ass.
Hater not understanding logistic lag.![]()
"russia iwll not invade" "this will be over in 5 days" "trump will win"![]()
Stupid ing fascist apologist stick.
I'm just grateful he did invade.
I'm just grateful it's still not over.
&
Trump President.
Not Clinton.
Let us proceed...
Explain why the ruble has recovered in a week then.... tik tok....
If no country wants to trade in rubles why has it recovered to pre war value?tik tok
Ruble has recovered its value vs Dollar..no way Russia can do this by exploitikg its tight control on its own market![]()
If this was possible then every country would do this![]()
While it it is possible that mishandling of WW2 era bombs is possible, the russians have loads at other locations too that have not gone off.
Just a coincidence the ammo depot near the Ukrainian border blew up in middle of war?
But I would also blame poor handling of the munitions to protect my sources/capabilities near the russian border or give russians an excuse for payback.
Putin's plan to prop up the ruble is working.

London (CNN Business)The barrage of sanctions imposed by the West following Russia's invasion of Ukraine decimated the ruble. But one month after the tanks rolled, the currency has made a full recovery and is now trading at levels seen prior to the war. How is that possible?
Russia's central bank has taken dramatic steps in recent weeks to intervene in the market, implementing policies to prevent investors and companies from selling the currency and other measures that force them to buy it.
What has Moscow done to boost the ruble?
- The central bank has more than doubled interest rates to 20%. That encourages Russian savers to keep their money in local currency.
- Exporters have been ordered to swap 80% of their foreign currency revenues for rubles rather than holding onto US dollars or euros.
- Russian brokers have been banned from selling securities held by foreigners.
- Residents are not allowed to make bank transfers outside Russia.
- Russia has threatened to demand payment for natural gas in rubles, not euros or dollars.
30 rubles per dollar in 2012.
Explain why the ruble hasn't recovered to that point, you ing fascist apologist stick.
But wait, it gets dumber.
What you don't know can kill you.
Russian Troops Suffer ‘Acute Radiation Sickness’ After Digging Chernobyl Trenches
Several hundred Russian soldiers were forced to hastily withdraw from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine after suffering “acute radiation sickness” from contaminated soil, according to Ukrainian officials.
The troops, who reportedly dug trenches in a contaminated Red Forest near the site of the worst nuclear disaster in history, are now being treated in a special medical facility in Gomel, Belarus. The forest is so named because thousands of pine trees turned red during the 1986 nuclear disaster. The area is considered so highly toxic that not even highly specialized Chernobyl workers are allowed to enter the zone.
U.S. intelligence reported Wednesday that Russian forces began withdrawing from the defunct site. Russia said the withdrawal from Chernobyl was part of a pledge to scale back the invasion. But Ukrainian media says it is actually because the troops were “irradiated” from the contaminated soil.
“Another batch of Russian irradiated terrorists who seized the Chernobyl zone was brought to the Belarusian Radiation Medicine Center in Gomel today,” Yaroslav Yemelianenko, who works for the Public Council at the State Agency of Ukraine for Exclusion Zone Management, posted on Facebook. “There are rules for dealing with this territory.”

OOOPSIES
lol no. I already explained why, you just don't like the answer
Russia didn't just sit around and did nothing, they've been imposing monetary controls since the sanctions came about. The ruble isn't working on a free market economy anymore.
If the sanctions are a nothingburger, why is Russia desperate to get payments in rubles, their stock market tanked and their economy shrinking?
There's a long history of capital controls (especially in South America), and they just don't last long.
