Watched first 2 episodes of this. Think its a new show on Paramount. Prequel to Yellowstone show which I have not seen.

But I probably would prefer this one 1883 because of the time setting. Great show so far with lots of action and twists. Seems like its gonna be a nice ride on the wild west

Also first 2 episodes already have cameos of Tom Hanks and Billy Bob Thornton.

Hanks cameo was.lame but Billy Bobs was ing great

    Cant wait for episode 3...

Definitely something I want to watch but my expectations were not great given that they cast Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.

I was curious about this. I've had several people recommend the main Yellowstone tv show, but it isn't available on Paramount+, it's only available to cable subscribers.

We get Yellowstone with YouTube TV. It's very good imo. It kind of follows the Ozark/Blood Lines theme. Conflicted people doing very bad things. And like those two, the setting makes it different enough to seem fresh.

I haven't really wanted to watch anything recently but my wife convinced me to start this series with her. We watched the first three episodes and it's great. The acting is way better than I expected. Also cameos so far by Tom Hanks and Billy Bob Thornton. Sam Elliot is great in a pretty familiar role for him. No problems with Tim McGraw or Faith Hill. They're very good as well. Their characters' daughter is the narrator and also plays a prominent role in the show and she's also solid.

It's just a really well done western. Completely different than Yellowstone where you sometimes have to get through some cringe with certain characters.

    Easily an 8/10 so far.

Definitely agree so far, even though I'm only two episodes in. Seems like a solid western. I decided to watch this before I paid to watch Yellowstone

For some reason, YouTube TV let us watch all of the Yellowstones. But only the first 2 episodes of 1883. But if you go through Prime, you can get Paramount+ for .99 per month for two months.

I have Paramount+, that's how I'm watching 1883. But Yellowstone is only available through Pea that I can see. It's only $5 a month, so I'll just cancel after I finish the show.

That must suck having to subscribe to so many different services when I get all that for free and in one app.

Btw, how is YS to begin with? Is it a really slow build up or does it catch your full attention almost from the start? I've been pondering whether or not to invest time into watching it.

It moves fast. You'll know if you like it or not pretty quick. I will say the third season was maybe a let down but the fourth was great.

All I know is that I've not yet heard anything bad about YS so it's peaked my interest. No one has said one way or the other if it's slow so thanks for that. I'll check it out soon.

Every season in a nuts ..

Look at all our land and our crazy ass foreman
Look at our spoiled, daughter and latent sexual son
Look at our ex-SEAL black sheep son who somehow is 24 and did 10 tours in Iraq.

Someone wants our land to build casino/interstate/bingo parlor
    Kill them, kill them all

    Next season..

Finished 1883 last night. It turned out to be good but not as good as the first few episodes. Kind of gets a little ridiculous at times.

    A Western Soap Opera...?
It clearly draws a lot of inspiration from Dances with Wolves and Lonesome Dove, both of which could be categorized as western soap operas (though 1883 is not nearly as good as either obviously).

Eight episodes in and I finally reached a point that it's starting to bother me. I was good with Elsa being the narrator and principal character, I was good with a coming-of-age story and a young woman trying to break out from what was expected of women of that era... all that stuff. I was even excited to see how killing somebody for the first time effected her. But something about the Native American storyline just isn't sitting right. That outfit at the end of episode 8 was the topper. It was what I'd picture a stripper to wear at an Indian casino. Especially considering Tim McGraw's skin looks like dark sunburnt leather, and she looks like she's never set foot in the sun before.

I think what bothers me most is that instead of really showing an independent, free-spirited person coming into her own, she's just taking on traits of different dudes she sleeps with.

I guess I need to finish it before saying much else. There's a lot about the show that I really like.

The acting and the way the characters look is just like a soap opera. Perfect.
they need a scar on a pretty girl, make it an attractive scar.
No one gets dirty. imo its not even close to trying to make anything a bout the west look real except they are in a really pretty part of the west.
And I got enough about horses in two episodes (I think my wife is pretty far into it). The men always have something sly and manly to say, the women for womanly stuff and add some social intrigue. Thats what I saw and heard.
    Its just cookbook crap imo.

This one of the few times I have had real problems with an assessment on this site. I have found some gems recommendations, this is not one of them, at all.

Ending was strong but also wish there was another episode covering their settlement. Or atleast the few that survived.

General take away: the German gypsies regret their decision to travel to the New World.
