Its your team Dejounte! Get that W!
Spurs don't have to rely on that soft choker Demar this time. Though I'm worried about the Poeltl vs JV matchup. Getting Val in foul trouble would really open things up for SA
If we beat Pels then like our chances vs Playoff Pee and the Clippers.
Really excited about the game tonight.![]()
It would be nice but i really, really dont want the spurs to lose out on their potential lottery pick just to get smashed by Phoenix instead
Same here, i'm truly pumped! It's been a while to have this feeling heading into a game. I missed it.
I'm excited to see this youngs team reaction to playing a do or die playoff atmosphere game on the road. Let's see what they are made of.
Kinda surprised Pels are favored by 5.5, tbh. Seems a lot to me, specially that spurs won their last meeting not so long ago... Que sera sera.
I know but it's not about winning and losing anymore. It's about what Pop wants.
Earlier in the year trotting out those losing lineups.
So, moving forward hey here we are might as well give it a 100% go and see if real playoffs can be made.
Tbh, I can see us making the playoffs. Neither Pels or Clippers are that strong, it just depends on which Spurs show up. I think we're a bad matchup for both theams.
Still, no pressure, noone expected us to make it, hopefully the young guys rise up to the occasion.
kinda thinking out loud here but pretty ty to be a 10th place team with potentially the 9th overall pick and get downgraded to 14th overall pick for the crime of play in success.
maybe lock in the draft position at the end of the regular season, if the 10th place earns the 8th seed winning out the play in, they still get the pick from their original draft position at the end of the reg season.
you're letting 2 games determine what 82 games should be determining.
But then teams with postseason potential could intentionally drag at the end of reg season, drop deliberately to 9th or 10th but just keep a foot in the play in door, then flip the postseason switch and blaze through deep into the playoffs while securing a better pick to kinda double dip if you will? Risky to run yourself through the top seed though?
I like this play in idea, pretty cool way to keep the back end of the standing engaged. But Spurs success shouldn't penalize them here, there's gotta be a better way. Would love to give the play in everything they got but it's gonna be foolish to advance, 9/10/11/12 with the outside chance at 1/2/3/4 vs. 14 just to be swept by the 1 seed anyway? No incentive to advance out of the play in for SA and that design is kinda anti cinderella imo. Guess NBA doesn't want an imbalanced first round and that makes sense, but Spurs have zero reason to not win PI-1 and lose PI-2 as best case scenario.
At the end of the day what "the team" want more than lottery balls is playoffs revenue. Getting in would also put the spurs in more TV spots going forward.
The NBA employs revenue sharing..
That has nothing to do with the playoffs. The estimate is that each home playoff game is worth and additional ~$1M to a team.
So, let's make it a close game until 7 minutes left. Then, put a lid on our basket and double the size of theirs.
Good point that post season presence and therefore juicy financial windfall is an incentive to advance to the playoffs for Spurs but then that same logic dictates that a 14th pick will hamper potential future postseason viability if it could've been 1/2/3/4/9/10/11/12th pick instead. You're burning future longterm postseason viability and therefore 1M per playoff game financial bonus for a short term boost.
Seems short sighted to be getting swept by the Suns for 2M and getting downgraded to 14th from possibly 1/2/3/4/9/10/11/12th when say 4th or 9th could've been the talent difference to secure exponentially more playoff games in the future bc the Spurs are now compe ive again.
Perhaps the Spurs have already lined up prelim trade packs for this draft day/offseason upcoming and feel confident in discussions that those deals will still be there this summer enough to play with the house money to finish this current season however they choose?
Maybe Spurs scouts like an obscure draft talent that projected way down out of the top 14 and feel like they can finish anywhere they want with the few potential paths and still snag their guy with the picks they wind up with at any pick scenario that occurs.
This is it, the ultimate freebie.
If the Spurs win, Team Tank and Team Win both live to fight another day.
That's quite a parlay.
If they lose, one-half of the equation is gone.
Let both sides live to fight another day (or 48 hours to be more accurate).
Let the Spurs attain their first post-season win since April 25, 2019.

I'm not sure what you consider this...is it the pre-post-season?
Like, if someone were to put up a 101-point game in the play-in tournament...how does that get recorded?
