I think a majority of those actually wanting masks on planes are uninformed. The air is filtered and planes are not super spreaders. They are basing this off of optics and not sound data.

Do you have any support for that? If you're in a middle seat, you have 8 people around you within a pretty small radius. Not to mention walking down the aisle to go to the bathroom. I'm not sure the air is filtered quick enough to not worry about it.

What decision to appeal?

Walensky waved limp wristedly at personal choice, saying that she personally thinks everyone who boards a plane should wear a mask.

Is that a ruling duly rendered by the CDC to the president determining that continuing to mask up during a respiratory pandemic is a public health priority? Seems not.

The timing of this is bad for Biden because, as I understand it, the decision isn't just that the mask mandates should be lifted now, it's that the President doesn't have the authority to call for a mask mandate. That should absolutely be appealed, but to do so now looks like you're calling for the current mandate to continue.

If they'd lifted the mandate weeks ago like they probably should have, this doesn't have the same easy headlines and public misunderstanding. Extending the mask mandate into May to "assess" a new variant was a political softball for Republicans.
