The last couple Bucks-Celtics games have been good because of exciting 4th quarters and exciting finishes. Compe ive games are generally enjoyable watches. Unlikely heroes like Horford. Double digit deficit comebacks like last night. It’s exciting, awesome. That doesn’t mean Giannis’ style of basketball is any less terrible to watch. It’s not pretty basketball. And I know it doesn’t have to be pretty to be effective or to win. It’s just an opinion. I just don’t like watching Giannis’ offense.

And yeah, it is reminiscent of Shaq. Bully ball times a million. Shoulders, elbows, forearms into the throats of defenders. Clumsy giant preying mantis monster clearing a path of destruction towards the basket. Like watching Godzilla trying to perform a ballet. And yes, there were people complaining about Shaq’s game being ugly and not enjoyable to watch. Plenty of Spurs fans thought and said as much. It was ugly. Shaq’s game was not a fun watch. The Dream... now his game was enjoyable to watch. The “beautiful” game when the Spurs transitioned into a more free flowing offense. That was pretty. The Warriors when they first emerged as le contenders. Beautiful basketball.

The Freak? You can praise him all you want. Call him likable and humble and efficient, a winner, a champion. But his game, something you cannot call it is pretty. is not pretty basketball.

I would even argue that Giannis game is more watchable than Shaq's and dude can hit a FT, at least we don't have to suffer a hack a Giannis kind of stuff.
I do remember some people complaining about dat Lakers teams playing some ugly bb true but as of today nobody is looking at Shaq career with a what an ugly game he had more like unstoppable, force of nature...

All in all, it is always a question of perspective... a lot of SFs adored the Spurs slow pace bb when the rest of the nba hated it.. same with the bad boys. I personally enjoy it.

I'm not sure what is worst tbh... watching Giannis bullying defense or watching D'Antoni rockets jacking up 40 3s per game. I do prefer watching Giannis.

Of course I'm a big fan of the beautiful game for obvious reasons... a joy to watch

I also appreciate a defense first bully ball style.
Much rather a team/player attacking the paint rather than settling for 3s

IDK, mid 90s Rockets basically played the early 00's Spurs ball where they just dump it in the post every possession and wait for the double then kick it out to one of the wings, all of whom are camped at the three point line. Same thing every single possession, I remember both teams being pretty reviled by most fans.

    ‪James Harden with 1 shot in the 2nd half.‬
‪That’s 1 more than Kobe Bryant in the 2nd half of game 7 vs the Suns in 2006.‬

Harden and Westbrick should reunite in some hole like NY. Cause no serious team should want either of them. I would not have Westbrook on a minimum.

Tbh Freak is as difficult a player to officiate as guys like Shaq and LeBron, maybe more difficult in some ways. His size and strength and length, and then his awkwardness and aggressiveness in combination are all impossible to defend. Play him too tight and his elbows and forearms are in your face and neck. Give him just a little space, and he can literally step around you and make a lay-up with one stride and hardly leaving the floor. I think you can call an offensive foul on him on most of his drives where there’s physicality by tough, tightly contested defense. He loves to dig his elbow into defenders on drives. And he initiated contact most of those times as well. But any time there’s not an offensive foul, I do think there’s a defensive foul. He forces contact. Every drive. Enough contact for a foul nearly every time he attacks. And that’s why he’s so tough to officiate. It’s a foul one way or another. But can you call a foul EVERY possession? That’s the thing.

Yeah, it’s not pretty basketball. I don’t like his offense either. But unless they start to officiate him differently, I actually think he’ll age well, even without a jumper. He’s not going to get shorter or lose length as he ages. And he seems to be the type who will hit the weight room everyday until he retires. So his size, length, and strength will allow him to score at the rim until he’s done. It’s not like Russ losing athleticism. Freak will still be 6’11 with a 7’4 wingspan when he’s 36. He’s still going to have 10 feet long strides and sharp elbows. I guess we’ll see. But I think he has a chance to put up superstar production type into his mid 30s.
Not only that, he's mentally tough. The guy keeps coming at you even if he's having a tough shooting night at the foul line. You will never see him not try or give up. I don't remember him much early in his career but he posts up a lot more than he did when he was young and Kidd tried to make him a PG. And he's a monster in the post for the reasons you state. More than anything else I like his mentality. I suppose as he ages he'll lose something defensively but maybe he will be like some greats who still affected the game bc of their size and by then veteran timing. Tim Duncan comes to my mind as someone who remained effective until he really fell apart but I am sure there must be others I never watched bc they were b4 my time or in teams I didn't watch.
