The oligarchs will find a way to get their Porsches and Ferraris.
This area allows for a very different type of war that allows Russia to use the slow go strategy of s a place to pieces, then ground assault against greatly weakened opponent. It will not replace the type of fighting that requires a different strategy depending on terrain etc... It is not helpful to Zelensky to lose the Donbas and then have to try to regain it later instead of repulsing the Russians in the breakaway region now.
All imo of course based on what I have read.
Elsewhere the Russians are doing next to nothing offensively. They are digging in defensive positions. Russia has huge supply issues as well from missiles to actual people to fight. So they will defend for now in other areas of importance. The Russians are doing their best to set up some sort of society in areas they have destroyed but its far from smooth as El No No mentioned. This is not open war with tanks and people scurrying this way and that. The really horrid fighting occurs when cities are s ed and Ukranian defensive position s ed at long distance. The Ukrainians are tied down because they are defending populated areas in the Donbas. In cities that the Russians hold in the south, they have just dug in. They have not, for instance, been successful in Odesa (south) and basically leave it alone except for long distance missiles that are dwindling and not being resupplied as the sanctions have taken their toll.
Also it seems as if world markets see this as a very long slog. So as far as inflation world wide... its really on the loose. It was already set free before the war with Covid after effects.

As I said a few weeks ago, if they can't even take the Donbas, which is right next door to them, might as well pack up and go home. They should take it, though with today's Putler army, you never know how long they're going to take.
The thing is, the war isn't stopping there and then, and what kind of stomach they have to defend it in the long run is also in question.

It is still shocking how bad the Russian military has performed.
