Its the "mismanagement of resources" that has allowed the rapid population expansion. The discovery of carbon fuels created the industrial revolution which created agricultural specialization from carbon based fertilizers to feed the masses that moved to the cities to fuel the industrial revolution. An unfortunate side effect was global warming. If we were suddenly able to ban carbon fuels people would die by the billions within weeks
