I was utterly confused why they were celebrating because a special master had been approved. All it does is buy Trump maybe a month or so lol

My guess is before he's indicted. The judge made a interesting comment on why she granted it, it was something along the lines of "for the sake of the country". That tells me that she probably knows that there is stuff that will almost surely get him indicted. But by granting what the Trump team wanted, if there is an indictment Trump and the MAGA's will have one less excuse to use on how everyone is out to get Trump. If it was not granted and the indictment took place without this, she already knows how Trump operates meaning he would be calling for riots on the streets because he got indicted without this special master they wanted
let's be honest, if Judge Cannon didn't protect Trump from indictment one of his followers would try to kill her.
that said, I think Judge Cannon always intended to rule for Trump. it's yet more Calvinball, another right wing judge making up facts and law when facts and the law are inconvenient.

There's a legal argument for separation of powers to be made here as well, with regards specifically to the injunction.
The appointment of a special master is fine*, but it has no authority to tell the Executive to stop a criminal investigation. The Judicial simply cannot tell the Executive how to conduct it's business.
(* arguably it's effectively useless, since the Judiciary cannot really mandate the DOJ to stop investigating. However, an argument could be made that any differences of opinion between the special master and the DOJ could be brought up in an eventual criminal case).

leaving aside the jurisdiction issue and Judge Cannon's weird order interfering with a core executive function, isn't there precedent that a civil filing can't derail a criminal one?

Idk if DOJ will appeal. But maybe they shouldn't, as the argument some analysts have said is that a Special Master doesn't do too much harm aside from delaying the process (and so would an appeal), but would add a layer of this whole process being on the up and up, leaving expected claims by maga s suggesting the DOJ lied and planted and was corrupt more lacking. They can still argue it, but the counter is, well a Trump appointed judge assigned a Special Master to oversee the investigation and the do ents in question.
Asking the judge to reconsider would be low risk and would give the DOJ a chance to get their objections to the ruling on the record as well as the stakes wrt to the national security. Some say DOJ already has enough info to indict. We'll see.
Oh this is no big deal according to MAGA's. It's fine that Trump had this stored away in a closet with a Master lock protecting it
