The pardon was for federal crime. State crimes are not covered and require a governor pardon.

I think he pleaded not guilty to the federal charges. The pardon was granted before a trial. I think an admission of guilt is vaguely implicit in accepting a pardon but doesn't count for purposes of jeopardy or separate sovereignty.
