1/5 of those arrested at the border are repeat offenders. They know that the border is open and the time is ripe to come so they just come right back. You can even make BS asylum claims if need be.

We have a VP border czar who does not even bother to pretend to care about the issue anymore.

I mean if I have to explain why there’s record detentions at the border now vis a vis the previous administration (which, BTW, didn’t break any apprehension records), then the obvious answer is that we have competent people doing their jobs at the border now and we didn’t before.

Bonus points to the fact that we’re having record detentions without having to build any wall, which Mexico wasn’t going to pay for and didn’t stop anybody.
