Don't you think there's something to them seeing Primo as a guy with the potential to be their next homerun a la neph?

People are downplaying this hard core. If he's already a predator and has psychological issues, you don't keep him around and cover that up. You publicly distance yourself while leaving open informal channels if you actually care about the person. I think the Spurs still like Primo and want him to succeed, but they aren't going to take a huge PR hit for him. For all we know, they've been trying to address this but don't think he'd take it seriously unless he was cut.
