LYDD, England, Nov 8 (Reuters) - Britain is stepping up its support for Ukrainian soldiers through the winter, Defence Secretary Ben Wallace told Reuters on Wednesday, following weeks of Ukrainian advances towards the southern city of Kherson.
Wallace joined NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to observe the training of Ukrainian troops in the southeast English town of Lydd, as Britain announced the delivery of a further 12,000 extreme cold-weather sleeping kits for Ukraine.
"Winter is approaching and that is an important challenge for both sides," Wallace said. "So we're determined ... to give Ukrainian soldiers the best basic skills because we already know that the Russian military aren't doing that."
Later, Britain's Ministry of Defence said it would soon complete the delivery of 1,000 additional surface-to-air missiles to Ukraine's armed forces. The equipment includes launchers and missiles and is capable of shooting down air targets including Russian drones and cruise missiles, it said.

Hey buddy, how are ya?
Sorry to all over your takes again, but do you know why it was announced that the Russians would be leaving Kherson?
Both Shoigu and Arestovich referenced it today, but let me help you out since Moon of Alabama failed to fill you in. The bloodbath battles of Pavlivka—where up to 500 new Russian mobiks got slaughtered on a daily basis—is why the withdrawal was announced. The only supply artery left to Kherson is the railway that runs through Pavlivka, and that battle is lost.
Shoigu also mentioned that this was to assuage the fears of the families of the newly mobilized who feared even greater loss of life. This means the attrition is hitting on the home front and the propaganda is losing steam as families question whether this war can be won after 4 months of moving backwards.
I’m sorry this is happening to you
Yup, 3000,000 Biden bio-lab engineered mosquitos were mobilized by Ukraine.
Backchannel.peace talks working
As fighting in Ukraine slows down due to the winter cold, the US believes there may be room for a diplomatic solution to the conflict, NBC reported on Wednesday citing multiple officials “familiar with the matter,” none of whom spoke on the record. US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan was reportedly “testing the waters” for this during last week’s visit to Kiev.
According to the outlet’s sources, the US increasingly believes neither Moscow nor Kiev can achieve all of their goals, and that the winter may present an opportunity for talks, possibly mediated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“The potential for talks, we would like to see that happening,” said one unnamed Western official, described as having direct knowledge of military operations. “In the winter everything slows down.”

https://www.defense.gov/News/Release...e-for-ukraine/$400 Million in Additional Assistance for Ukraine
Nov. 10, 2022 |
Today, the Department of Defense (DoD) announces the authorization of a Presidential Drawdown of security assistance valued at up to $400 million to meet Ukraine's critical security and defense needs. This authorization is the Biden Administration's twenty-fifth drawdown of equipment from DoD inventories for Ukraine since August 2021.
Capabilities in this package include:
• Missiles for HAWK air defense systems;
• Four Avenger air defense systems and Stinger missiles;
• Additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS);
• 21,000 155mm artillery rounds;
• 500 precision-guided 155mm artillery rounds;
• 10,000 120mm mortar rounds;
• 100 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs);
• 400 grenade launchers;
• Small arms, optics, and more than 20,000,000 rounds of small arms ammunition;
• Demolition equipment for obstacle clearing;
• Cold weather protective gear.
With Russia's unrelenting and brutal air attacks on Ukrainian critical infrastructure, additional air defense capabilities are critical. The HAWK missiles, which will be refurbished using Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative funds, will complement Spain's recent commitment of HAWK launchers to help Ukraine meet this threat. The Avenger short-range air defense systems will also provide Ukraine with capability to protect Ukrainian troops and critical infrastructure against Unmanned Aerial Systems and helicopters.
In total, the United States has committed more than $19.3 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the Biden Administration. Since 2014, the United States has committed more than $21.4 billion in security assistance to Ukraine and more than $18.6 billion since the beginning of Russia's unprovoked and brutal invasion on February 24.
To meet Ukraine's evolving battlefield requirements, the United States will continue to work with its Allies and partners to provide Ukraine with key capabilities.
