Just between us amigo, Argentina is acting a bit like sore winners. You were expected to win, you did, and now move onto the next Round. Not like this Holland is some seasoned team or rival.
Brah, lots of tension, heat of the moment stuff... this stuff happens, and I'm glad we didn't pull a headbutt like Zidane in the World Cup final, tbh...

Stakes are high and nobody wants to give anything away, has happened to the best of them.

Also, if you want to point something out about this Dutch team is that Van Gaal ran his mouth before the game. "We still have a score to settle with Argentina". So no surprises this was a heated game.

BTW, Van Gaal quit coaching the dutch team after the game and said "We played 20 games in my third return to the national team and we didn't lose any of them".

That's the kind of en led bag this guy is and I'm gonna admit it was sweet to send him packing again. Just wish cancer would've taken him away earlier, tbh...

You were my pre tournament pick, don't want you blowing your head this early

I believe you get past Croatia. But for now enjoy today. I proclaimed in Extras that both squads are strong in shootouts so this result wasn't a surprise to me but it definitely showed Argie grit. Better than any KO victory in the 2014 run?

I mean this did happen right after Messi made it 2-0, tbh. It was a d!ck move that was talked about in this thread:

It says I can't see the video in my country.

"The players said something to each other"

It wouldn't surprise me if he was the one that put his players up to it to try and get the Argies riled up to try and get an advantage. He was the one that started the subtle trash talking before the game even started afterall, tbh.

It seems Van Gaal thought he wouldn’t win under normal conditions, because Argentina is superior technically. But this time the Argentina squad has more experience, particularly from key players like Messi. The ref gave like too many yellows, leaving players go half intensity, fortunately, no reds till very late in the game a double yellow for one Netherlands player.

Argentina was up 2-0. Holland had no iden y. Martinez stood over Jong. For whatever reasons it fired them up and they responded.

They lost in penalties. Almost came back down 2 goals and 2 kicks

    Best attacker is Depay?

Holland has abundance of tall target men and Germany has abundance of wingers to cross em the ball

Should be able to see that one..

I agree it was unnecessary and dumb of Martinez to react like that, but some are acting like he spat on him or threw a cheap shot.. Martínez interpreted that de jong wanted to intimidate him by going for that header that he was not in good position for, so he returned the favor.

Also for all the talk of argentinas celebration, Virgil also celebrated the equaliser by yelling at Lisandro Martínez while he was on the floor, i don't know why only Argentina is expected to be classy, even when the opponent isnt

Wait? Are folks really crying about that?

I saw that live and didn't think much of it. That's your typical run of the mill heated exchange during a football match, what the are you guys getting so worked up over?

When I read "Martinez stood over De Jong", I thought he had stepped on him or something like that, tbh which it would have been weird because VAR would have done it's job.

Haha. Brother it's not often you see player slam the ball into opposing bench. Following foul.

The funny thing is that if you look closely, De Jong goes with his elbow up and that's what Martinez takes exception to. At the end of the day, nothing to see either way. A common football exchange that ends there. I don't know why folks are making such a big fuss over it.

That I can agree with, but everybody was talking about this Martinez and I wanted to see what the big deal was. It turns out, it wasn't a big deal at all.

It was bad timing by Martinez. Holland was lost @ 75 minutes

He needs to save that for when our Argies are down

Like I said earlier, the ref was horrible for both teams... just not a good ref at this stage of the tournament...
He still may ref the final too apparently

Holland had us in the ropes going into ET…and they stopped playing. Very weird as the di maria sub made us dangerous again in the second ET. Holland should have continued hoofing the long balls

If the plan is to make the finals, Argentina will want the other finalist to have as tough games as possible to arrive there. Most refs are pro’s, at that level they shouldn’t put someone like the ref from the Argentina vs Netherlands game. There are also less “errors” with the VAR nowadays.
