Whenever you think Barlow, you should be thinking Bassey.
Spurs pretty much have Bassey wrapped up with the two-way, and he's still getting paid. The only real limit is the number of games (50)

We're 27 games in and he's only played in 17, so he's still got plenty left in the tank and the Spurs could always convert it to a minimum-salary contract at any time if they continue to like what they see.

Why not? He's about the age when Danny Green turned it around and became Danny Green. Ok, the situations are very different and they're very different players, but why not?

Would be worth it. Did you know he is 6’8
If I remember correctly he's one of those dudes that lucked out and were born with a freakish NBA body but never quite figured it out. Built like Kawhi L and wasted it a way.

    Maybe low bb IQ?

Odd signing, while he was always intriguing he's never amounted to much. Number 8 pick, never averaged above 9 points on his 5th team and soon to be 27.
Maybe someone is being shipped out and need bodies
Maybe someone else got caught with their pants down.

    Was thinking the same thing.

KJ, Vassell, Langford, J Rich, McDermott, Branham - then arguably KBD, Roby and Sochan - all at times playing the 3/4? Interesting…

They waived Alize. Doubt there is more to this ither than 13-15th man musical chairs we’ve been playing for 2-3 seasons.

Always liked him for his defense, and probably his offensive game could still be improved in the right environment...come on guys, being 26 doesn't mean his career is already in the twighlight.
He has at least other 8 years going forward, and I think we can really find out soon if this once lotto pick (top 10) could be trasformed in something worth a contract (also as a not expansive role player) next year...would you mind having a good role player for some years?
The strategy of this year is finding out and experiment how many bodies you can for finding out the dozen people worth playing next year together with the limited amount of players under contract (Vassell, Jhonson, Sochan, Brahnam, Wesley, Mc Dermott) plus our soon to be lottery pick...
We already have some veteran players with expiring contracts (or team options) that (in case no trade offers comes) we're eveluating for next year's roster...Poeltl, KBD, J.Rich, Collins...but there are also younger players like Langford, Bassey, Roby, Tre Jones...these are all expirings and quite all of them have already shown flashes of being players deserving at least consideration to be re signed...

    Simplest and most likely explanation.
It's something they have always done- Kick the tires on players.

Also with all the minor injuries having healthy bodies for practice- though the above is more likely

They have a chance to look at him, and maybe another player before the cutdown deadline in January.

He’s truly horrible on offense. His O WSs are negative for his career.

Situationally, he can be useful when you need a stop late in a game. Offensively, I'll be very surprised if he develops anything there but we can definitely afford to explore that this season. If you're going to play him in a regular rotation you better have several outside shooters on the floor. There's no way he can play with Jak and Sochan on the floor.

I doubt he is on the roster at the end of the season. I wonder if his contract is fully guaranteed. Although since the Spurs are under the minimum salary it's basically free money.

At least he's cheap and has more experience than Alize Johnson (which isn't saying much), but he's probably on the roster only until the next flavor of the month comes along.

This season will be remembered by Spurs fans as the year of the Johnson.

Exactly. Until the guarantee deadline in January, they’ll use the spot to check out players. I guess it’s easier to cycle them thru a 15 man roster spot than a 2 way? At the guarantee deadline, they’ll probably cut whoever occupies it, and sign Bassey for the rest of the year on a Hinkey deal, 4 years minimum, one, or maybe two years guaranteed,

    He can’t shoot for . He’s a NO-3 and D. His overall career FG% is 38. His overall 3G% is 30. Eight seasons, 420 games. It’s not a small sample size.
