tbh if you look at the immigration policies of most other countries, they are far stricter than the United States. There’s nothing wrong with having strict border policies and enforcing those rules.
At the same time, the US was supposedly founded on different principles regarding immigration that the “Muh Founding Fathers!” crew like to conveniently ignore.

it is 100% legal to seek asylum in the US, regardless of the manner of entry.
If one meets criteria for asylum. Being poor isn't one. Neither is fear of prosecution (not persecution).
