Great Intel! Thanks TimVP.
Great Intel! Thanks TimVP.
Thanks. My go to team for salary dumping was PHX, but now that they've traded all their picks I'm less interested. Who else might need out space?
I think sticking with 1st or bust is good way to go. Are 2nd round picks at this amount even reasonable ? You have to select a player, and then find him roster spot.
Cap space or avoiding/lowering luxury tax
Not that often we can say something like this, but Woj is wrongSpurs currently have 12 future firsts, not 13. Unless he knows something we don't lol
All 7 of their own firsts.

+2 swaps.
looking forward to the spurs liquidation sale today.
Seems like the biggest clumps:
1. Josh Richardson. Want to get a FRP. Who do they combine him with? Him with McDermott is a lot of salary. Don't see much else on the roster people would want. I see a Thad Young-style SRP swap for a late FRP. This might be highly attractive to many teams.
2. Cap space. As things fall out closer to the deadline, teams may really be desperate to get out of the tax, esp. repeaters. Could be a lot of value there.
3. I would be very surprised to see Zach Collins traded. What would it take for the SAS to budge? Right now his value seems higher on the team than what anyone is willing to offer.
And...
4. Great intel on Bassey. I assumed he was really hurt, but if they were keeping him out due to playing time restrictions, kudos to them. I just want somebody inside for the rest of the season. Losing games is one thing, losing games without any structure is another. It doesn't help anyone.
They definitely cannot give in and trade Josh for a second round pick, otherwise teams will know we are always bluffing, and do we really need that many more second round picks anyway?
Really feels like Spurs have a gameplan
Everything has felt methodical and deliberate
Also feels like it's mounting up to more moves - deadline is today at 2pm CST
Thanks. Richardson isn't worth a first rounder, we all know that. But instead of stockpiling more 2nds, our best case scenario would be packaging him with other assets for a 1st in something like this:
Richardson + filler for contract running 1 more year + 1st
Richardson + good second (ours or Toronto's '23) for expiring garbage + 1st
With all the sudden movement, if a large enough, last minute deal requires our assistance, that may be our best chance at striking gold.
Also, great tidbits about Bassey and Dieng.
There were rumors for yak to go to Boston also, so I suppose it’s possible they could make a smaller offer for Zach Collins.
If we end up starting Bassey we are in super-tank mode to finish this season.
I think it's clear to everyone that we MUST finish bottom 3.
The best way to do that is to gut the roster of people who are not long term prospects and might accidentally get us some wins.
Some teams with bad contracts
- New York: Fournier
- Dallas: Tim Hardaway and Bertans
- Heat: Duncan Robinson
- BKN: Harris
- Kings: Richaun Holmes
let see if Spurs are willing to take long term bad contracts for FRP.
However, if no additional moves, it still feels like SA is working towards a specific vision for the future
Doesn't feel like casual wheeling and dealing with loose trades
I can see a chosen direction taking shape
Like Richardson, the Spurs insider says the Spurs won’t simply trade McDermott for a single second round pick.
You're sure showing em PATFO.
I don't think the Charlotte pick is conveying.
Fournier - 2 more years
THJ and Bertans - 2 more years
Duncan Robinson - 3 more years
Nest - they shouldn't bother with cap dumping anybody
Kings - are just fine salary cap wise.
Send out Doug with Josh or Collins with Josh
I would even use the CHA pick with Josh if it netted SA a more firm 1st probably.
timvp - thoughts on SA taking on Simmons. I’m probably a no no matter what, but is there anything that would make you say yes? 2 of the PHX unprotected 1sts + a young player while sending out Khem/Doug at least?
Would be awesome to tack on some of these 2RPs with additional deals to shed them up into better value.
Don't really want to be left actually picking most of those second rounders imo
great news. They are doing what they should be doing
Fournier has no money guaranteed that 2nd year so its only one…
The Bassey disappearance makes perfect sense now.
Not this year, certainly, but do you really think LaMelo sticks around if they’re in the lottery the following two years? All they have to do is make the playoffs once in the subsequent two seasons, and it conveys. I’d say they have motivation to do so.
Zollins could be a sneaky good asset for some teams because he's still under team control next season ($7M team option).
