Was he a two-way? Would be a good get if so. If they cut someone to put him on the 15, then it'd be interesting to see who.

EDIT: He should be a two-way guy. Intriguing wing. Second guy the team picked up from Philly.

Looks like he was on a two-way contract. If this waiver claim slides him into the empty two-way spot, that'd be really good. I was looking at possible two-way candidates and the cupboard was pretty bare.

I was afraid the Spurs would sign some retread like Jordan Hall or Robert Woodard II or DJ Stewart or Alize Johnson. I like Julian Champagnie better than all those guys.

    Well done

Fringe draft player with all the intangibles you'd want in a developmental 3 and D player. Ideally would thrive in a cut and dish system like the spurs run. Good at getting his own shot due to his length and confidence. Has quite a bit of upside but definitely needs to develop.

G league experience of explosive games shows his offense translates to the big leagues.

Not a particularly great athlete, but has great feet. He's in control of his large frame. Has the defensive mindset to compete on that side.

Sixers really feeding the spurs a whole developmental program. Definitely Intrigued to see him play in Austin.

Exactly. He's ~6-foot-7 with a 6-foot-10 wingspan and 21 years old. In G League this season in his first season out of college, he's averaging 22 points per game and shoots 9 three-pointers a game at 35%.

That's definitely interesting enough for a two-way contract. I was mentally prepared for Stewart/Woodard/Alize/Hall so this is a pleasant surprise.

St. John’s fan here. Elite wing scorer, good size and can score from all over. Not the most athletic, but big and skilled. Even better person, one of the best guys out there

May or may not pan out, but it's hard to argue with the Spurs' strategy so far. On paper they're doing all the right things.

I love where the spurs head is at overall right now with taking some gambles on scrap heap guys.

Yeah, Roby has been a disappointment but didn’t cost anything and it was a worthwhile swing. But Collins has been reclaimed and seems like a value (even if he’s not a starter), Stanley Johnson even did well here although ultimately released and Bassey has done well too.

Spurs churning that lower end, taking some risks on guys that have some upside but making sure they protected themselves with the contracts. Keep it up
Agreed. Don’t know much about Champagnie but the mindset and process has been very solid.

It's a good 2 way pickup...echoing what several have said, I like the mindset here.

I watched him a couple times in college; he was clearly above almost everyone on the court.

This is the sort of pick up you want. Let Stanley Johnson play for a playoff team, grab someone with potential. I'm guessing Philly is going after Kevin Love.

He was on my radar as far as a potential second round pick. I remember him maybe having a twin brother who is more of a post player who went to Toronto for a while. But with Julian iirc he was an elite shooter in college but no vertical lift and so his ceiling isn’t too high. But probably great for the tank. I’d still rather have Stanley but tge flipside is the tank will present lots of amusing distractions like this to momentarily get intrigued by.
