"If there’s a Heaven, son, he ain't in it"
Spot on.
I met Jon Voight on the set of Varsity Blues (my brother had a bit part). He couldn't have been a nicer more impressive person - as opposed to Mr. Vander Beek. My mom was practically in love with the guy after he spent 15 minutes walking around with us.. And it was before he had started speaking his mind on Fox routinely...think Obama broke something in the right wing.
Now I'm ashamed I once had positive views about that man given what a total asshat he turned out to be and how he peddled in racist, conspiratorial, anti-democratic rhetoric. He too is leaving the world in a worse place than it was when he entered it. Especially ppl like Red though by facilitating a station that pumps our literal lies to the sheep ALL DAY, EVERY DAY. Facts no longer have meaning because of radio stations like WOAI and Fox. We're furked beyond repair because of that .
"If there’s a Heaven, son, he ain't in it"
Lol of course this thread turned political. Not controversial enough yet though tbh.
ducks get in here.
If a far-left curmudgeon like Pop can put his political differences aside to complement Red, anyone can tbh.
Political doesn't cover bad managements of what should have been a golden decade before the golden decade. Its ironic the cheapness let us tank because the team couldn't survive a spate on injury to the top talent. Pop and holt didnt have to start from the bottom but thats damning with faint praise.
Red mcolm wasn't the worse franchise owner of the nba and NFL, but his style of old boy gentlemen management doesn't lead to sucsess. And seeing the amazing work pop, RC, holt puts red in a bad light. Holt is cheap and conservative and that cheapness hurt at times, but it was far far better. I guess they did give Malone the best rapist award this week so we can also say Red was a good person lol.
McCombs, he ruined the media and is a big reason the nation is in such a ed up state now.
So can we move to Vegas now
They ain't even got ing water, what are they gonna do with an NBA team.
Holt actually spent money to keep a good team together unlike McCombs; Holt was an amazing owner. Losing Scola hurt but that's the only time Holt ever really got cheap. If McCombs was still owner he would have let Tony walk, probably Manu too, and then Tim would have gone to a franchise committed to putting out a winner. Peter Holt along with Angelo Drossos are Spurs legends.
Same thing as the nhl and nfl team
A better steward of his other commercial projects than his sports team, tbh.

Same 3:00 AM talking points as any "independent"/liberal station. Remarkable that so many still think that the way the newscasters politically emote during their airtime differentiates the underlying programming. Cornbread is still cornbread even if the recipe varies slightly from house to house.
Regardless, RIP Red and thanks for bringing the Spurs to our little city. Your investment served as the foundation for five championships, a consistently excellent brand, and some of the highest quality basketball the world has ever seen.
Clear Channel's Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck aren't a different recipe of cornbread. Nor is WOAI's Joe Pags for that matter. Those guys pump/pumped out lies and conspiracies. Political banter is far afield from straight up BS paraded as a different POV. And quite frankly, you equating them underscores how dangerous it is, because its so ubiquitous now, you don't even recognize how destabilizing it is.
Nothing matters when we collectively lose our basis in a universal undisputed set of facts. When facts become damned, there is no keeping people together. It's precisely why you have the right wing already starting to pine for a "national divorce" (see MTG's tweet) or worse yet, civil separation by any means necessary (see twitter on pretty much any day). Those local talk show hosts across this country spew BS (like Democratic politicians are groomers/pedophiles and have secret lairs where they perform said acts, want your child to have gender reassignment surgery at will, are in cahoots with dark forces, want undo ented workers voting, etc, etc, etc.) from their microphones daily.
And a bunch of that local radio show amplification of that filth originated with stations like WOAI, then Clear Channel where abominations like Rush gained national reach with their voluminous mouth diarrhea.
One last thing, that stuff was far from being just 3AM talking points. In fact that type of insanity permeated our national discourse and metastasized into being the predominant "talking points" of the Republican base voter.
I see Spurstalk never disappoints for toxicity....
I seriously really hope non of his family ever come to read here.
lol. people go HAM on Forbes "well he shouldn't have done it" criticize a billionaire "oh the toxic posters are at it again, disgusting"
Ok friend fair enough
Why? You think his family gives a that he polarized America with right wing conspiracy theories?
Define toxicity. And who is supposedly promoting it exactly?
Man, right and left wing conspiracy theories have always existed and will always exist.
What's sad is we live in a world, more than ever, where the only thing that matters to people is if a person is/was red or blue. I mean, how much of our lives are spent thinking about politics? And we reduce people and their contributions to this world to whether they meet this classification of red or blue. I mean, sometimes I think Pop goes off the reservation in interviews about "basketball", but when he dies, I don't think that his life and contributions should depend on how one feels about his views Columbus Day. I would like to think that the measure of one's life means more than that.
Texas was radically Republican well before WOAI and to be honest, San Antonio is mostly a democrat city anyway. And people believe what they want to believe. Doesn't matter if they hear it on Fox News or WOAI, some people are going to think Trump had the election stolen from him. The same is true with MSNBC and CNN and people that think Hillary lost because of Russia or that Stacey Abrams won Georgia. And I know it could have been played on other radio stations, but I'm glad I got to hear some of the games on WOAI when I couldn't watch them on TV or in person.
And BJ gave them a national platform that mainstreamed that garbage, all so he could keep his taxes low. So no, RIP and sweeping his disgusting legacy under the rug.
Sorry. Simply won't let you boil this down to both-sidesism.
There are times and situations wherein such an argument is germane, but this isn't one of them. One side is quite literally gunning for separation and division based entirely on a false set of facts. One side stormed the Capitol. One side is willing to usurp the Cons ution. One side is oblivious to reality and unwilling to listen to facts, whether they be scientific, electoral, and situational. One side is increasingly authoritarian and radicalized by the rhetoric its elected leaders. Don't even try to deny this.
And Pop, like him or not, cannot be equated ever to the negative aspects that Red is responsible for, notably promoting and profiting from muddying the national dialogue with lies.
So I repeat, I'm not going to demure to folks, moving forward, when they attempt to dismiss those behaviors with a simplistic both-sidesism denial. One side is to blame for this. And Red made it worse. Those are facts.
To be honest, I don't really care what you think anymore than you care what I think. They are opinions and I hardly think that any one person is responsible for what today, in my opinion, has taken both parties to the extreme. And there is bull on both sides of the political spectrum. I'm not excusing storming the capital building. That was a horrid event and I think Trump did more to damage the integrity of the ins utions of this country than any other politician in American history other than the Southerners that tried to succeed from the Union. But if you think that the far left isn't just as capable of doing the same thing, then you are kidding yourself. I mean, there are armed men consumed by leftist agendas and ideology that are showing up to conservative Supreme Court Justices' homes with guns.
