That's cool that they played 2 Unlimited - Get Ready for This. Just like old times.

It’s like a new shiny toy for them. We were pretty pumped up for the Saints when they were here for a bit. Kinda the same logic.

Yea if they relocated to Austin and continued to suck, the novelty would wear off and attendance would dwindle significantly, especially in a town that’s owned by the Longhorns. If/When they build a playoff contender, ticket sales will rise here in SA. Spurs really need Lady Luck on their side these next couple drafts though. Could make all the difference in the world.

Probably the fullest home game they’ve played this year. Fans got loud in the 4th quarter. Fun times. Looking forward to Saturday.

Yeah, that would be a death blow to the fan base. Much of San Antonio and most the Rio Grande Valley would no longer see the Spurs as their team. You might as well move the team to Mexico City before you move it to Austin.

Great idea. You could have the first all male/female transgender cheerleader squad. Nothing like bearded fat white guys with pim poms doing a halftime show trying to strip. Sure will make beer sales go up.

Austin is OK but overrated as . I mean if attendance is your metric, then move the spurs to Mexico City. Fans were way into the game there.

Seconded. From SA but lived in Austin for years. New Austin is trash. It’s a wannabe California cookie-cutter town now full of nothing but transplants cause all the locals have been priced out. Doesn’t even feel like Texas anymore. And the traffic and infrastructure are terrible.

There were a ton of Mexican plates in the Moody Center parking garage. I don’t think the Spurs are moving, but I do think it’s a really smart idea to broaden their fan base with games outside of SA. I wonder if they’ll up the number of games like this in the future or just stick with a few.

Troll thread???. While Austin COULD build a NBA approved stadium and probably has enough median income and metroplex population to support a team, why would the current stockholders and the NBA go to the extra added expense and discombobulation of the current SA fan base to move the team.

    1. The attendance here will probably increase to previous levels IF they are able to compete for a championship and increase interest.
    2. The fan base here has been developed over 50 years in a town that had no natural affinity for basketball at all. No such development in Austin although they have a T.U fan base for basketball these days
    3. A full stadium on a highly-hyped one-off game might not show anything like a ready made fan base for full stadiums in a new location over the course of a full season(s). Globetrotter games used to get good attendence too as novelties, but didn't mean any city they visited would automatically be a good venue for a NBA team.
    3. No evidence that fans from either SA or Austin are willing to make the drive in substantial numbers to increase attendence past normal games during normal seasons. Some will, most won't drive that far because of expenses, distance driving time before and after game, and the very real possibility of a DUI in some cases.
    4. Actual attendence may not be the sine qua non of profitability for NBA teams these days when compared to cable advertising revenue. I doubt merchandise will make enough for Spurs name under whichever town location to match any of the major franchises as long as they remain Super franchises with enhanced opportunities to ac ulate All Star Super players and consequently more playoff championships.
    5. Is playing a split schedule of home games between San Antonio and Austin really viable when trying to split the added expenses that would be necessary. I doubt it.

This is why your mom should relocate to Austin. She might find your father over there.
