Yeah I never said or suggested banning one weapon. Agree on reform of course. There was a ban on assault rifles in place for many years. It wasn't exclusive to one automatic machine-gun-like weapon. AR-15s are responsible for most of the mass murders in our country, which is why Republicans are wearing AR-15 emblems on their lapels.

Actually, handguns are used in most multiple person shootings, but that doesn't fit the current political narrative. I'm old enough to remember when handguns were the primary target of those on the left who wanted to eliminate the 2nd amendment. The push changed from handguns to "assault rifles*" sometime in the late 80s. I think they realized they could sell "scary black plastic rifle" as more of a "threat" more easily than a handgun which is just as dangerous, and in some cases can be more dangerous (indoors, close quarters) .
* - the "assault rifles" that anti-2nd amendment people talk about are not "assault rifles." An AR-15 style weapon is semi-automatic. It is NOT an "assault rifle." If you handed a semi-auto AR-15 to a soldier and told him to assault a position, he'd look at you like you were crazy. He'd want a real assault rifle (e.g. select fire M-16), not an AR-15 that looks similar to an assault rifle, but is far less capable.
From the footage I saw, the "trans" shooter appeared to not be using an AR-15, but a pistol caliber carbine (probably 9 mm), which is essentially a pistol with a stock and longer barrel.
