He's not good on defense. He's not even Joel Embiid.

He will have a learning curve steeper than Robinson or Duncan. It's no longer a big man's game.

He will be a perennial All-Star, but never an MVP candidate.

He's 7'3" and will have a short career, especially compared to Duncan.

He can just as easily be the next Zion Williamson or Kristaps Porzingis as the next Kevin Garnett, and that's pushing it with the KG comparison.

He can be a piece of a puzzle that eventually leads the Spurs back out of the cellar and into the playoff picture on a regular basis. But get ready for a generation of four-to-eight seeds, and generally losing in the first round with the occasional isolated second round appearance and also isolated year of missing the playoffs.

Most importantly. The NBA is not the same in 2023 as it was in 1989 or 1997. It's no longer a big man's game. If Duncan or Robinson (Especially Duncan considering he was always less of a dribbler and jump shooter than The Admiral) were to come into today's screwed up game, they'd be really good role players, but completely lost without a three point shot and perimeter defense.

Also, Euro players drafted ultra high don't exactly have the best track record. Wemby could very easily be Darko Milicic 2.0. He's not going to be 7'3" Giannis.

If Webanayama is your franchise player, get ready for a lot of 45-50 win seasons and first round exits, giving up 110-120 points per game.

Getting a big name like Wemby, the Spurs might not relocate just yet, but the old Spurs are never coming back.

Embrace the bitter truth, and welcome it into your heart, Spurs fans.

man shut up. He's a generational talent and will actually be able to workout with Tim. He can play on the perimeter like no other player with his size. He just has to stay healthy, but as I said in the other thread: His dad was a running athlete and his mother made sure the kids get proper nutrition since they were kids. He's been groomed as an athlete since he was a baby

    Realism.

    Copium.

The Spurs aren't going to make the playoffs next year, no matter how well Wemby does as a rookie.

Wemby will commit turnovers as a rookie. Draw offensive fouls. Be terrible on defense until he gets coached up.

He is way too skinny to last at his height. He needs to beef and muscle up if he wants to be a player on defense. Or else he will be a walking injury bug and force his way out after a few years like Kawhi.

    Hasheem Thabeet, right OP?
Yeah, an embryo of his and Darko Milicic's is worst case scenario, but not infeasible. He seems very soft.

Popovich will have a better relationship with Wemby than he did with Kawhi. Tony Parker will hopefully help with that relationship. Hopefully Duncan will be there to teach him some post game, even if he's not an assistant coach per se any longer.

Wemby will, most likely, be a very good player and a perennial All-Star. Probably a Tier 2 NBA superstar, below the Giannis's and Curry's and Lebron's of the world and more in line with someone like Anthony Davis, or like I said, Garnett of the past era.

He's not this 7'3" Kevin Durant or Giannis like people make him out to be. And he's not a classic big like Duncan or even a modern neoclassic big like Embiid, and he's not a polished finesse big like Nowitzki or Jokic. He's a tweener.

Duncan and Robinson had dramatically different games, both were great. This kid has unique tools. And if 7’6 Bradly could play 10+ years in the NBA, then it’s possible that shorter players can. Kid is only an inch taller than Gobert.

Both teams shooting the ball well. Davis is beasting. Jokic showing who the real MVP is. Lakers are better than their record, which goes against contemporary NBA cliche reasoning.

They were better than their record in '01 too... worlds better... in fact that may have been the best/most dominant Lakers championship team out of all their 12 championship rings (IMO the first five belong to the Timberwolves).

It's just common sense truth that the glory days of the old Spurs are never coming back. We're never going to win championships by beating teams by scores like 94 to 78 on a consistent basis anymore.

The days of Sprewell having to force up a terrible airball and Spurs winning the championship 78-77 are long gone. In this day and age Sprewell would have gotten a layup or two free throws, tbh.

But they are in trouble. You shoot that high of a clip from the field and from 3, 85 or better from the FT line, only 7 turnovers and you lose? That's going to sting. Lakers got killed on the offensive glass.

Back in my glory years, that final score and statline would have been from a 2 OT or 3 OT game, tbh.
