, who ended up with the zeroth pick??
No, he just adopted that name for the international audience since that's the knickname the US gave him, but people don't call him him "Wemby" in France, which is an english name... Listen to the commentators during the games or the fans/kids who want selfies or autographs, they called him Wembanyama or victor for the media, and just Victor for the fans, as well as US journalists who hung out with him in Paris (Givony, Windhorst) who also call hilm "Victor".
Nobody really calls him Wemby in France, or maybe occasionnaly, not to reapeat his name in publications, or to signal it's his USA knickname... French are also terrible or reluctant with english and english terms...

ing Lakers, at it again.
So he's usually called Wembanyama or Victor? If so, that is what I was going to call him as I wasn't sure if he likes being called Wemby?
And I only called him Wemby to keep the thread le short.
His name literally means 'winner'. Kid doesn't need a nickname.
He calls himself Wemby on social media. He doesn't mind it don't worry. He also likes the "Alien" label apparently.
Media (ESPN, SI...) actually don't call him Wemby in their acticles, just Wembanyama or Victor too. Some pundits mentions the "Wemby" name in their podcasts from time to time, usually the first time for the exotism, then swith to only Victor...I don't know where that name comes from but I 'm pretty sure NBA commentators won't call him Wemby during games, that will mostly be an online stuff for fans or social media since that's kind of a childish name you would give to a kangaroo, a dolphin or an ostrich. Not gonna age well as he gets older and I believe people are gonna switch to Victor or Vic here rather quickly into the season.

I’m French and I live in France, I was just stating that he adopted this nickname so it can be said that it’s known here. But indeed no media calls him Wemby here, it’s just the lazy Americans who can’t pronounce his name properly ^^ (I listen to Jeff Garcia on Locked On Spurs podcast and he took him a long time not to call him « WembaMyama »). We’re not reluctant to English names or nicknames, we just know how to pronounce his name.

Come on, french can't even properly pronounce Rihanna or George Clooney![]()
Wemby going to play some former Spurs in the Finals:
Donatas MOTIEJUNAS
Jaron BLOSSOMGAME
I have seen an interview of him saying he adopted the « Wemby » nickname because it's simple and easy to remember/say as lots of people have trouble saying his actual name.
Cool. Thanks. I just don't want to be disrespecting him by calling him a name that he doesn't like or go by. I'll call him Victor or Wembanyama.

Part of me wants Wemby to win, part of me thinks it's better if he doesn't. I wouldn't want it to go his head and cause him to start on the wrong foot in San Antonio, or put even more pressure on him and the Spurs to get early results.
Meaning the floor will be made out of?
Wow, that’s hallowed ground. Is there a retractable roof, or will it be open air??? Have not watched French Open in a while but dont ever recall it ever being closed off.
It will put pressure on the spurs if wemby impresses and plays well and stays healthy to get him help immediatley.
Clay, of course, since it's Roland Garros. Players will also have to jump above the net when they go from offense to defense but it should be fine.
They also will be expected to grunt loudly on every shot
A roof was added few years ago. Another Parisian basketball team played a game there few months ago, it looked like that :
