This is just disturbing and needs some spread. This case brings into serious question the unbiased and even accuracy of drug interdiction dogs.

    Its your rights....

Assuming the Judge wasn't Trump appointed, he is certainly looking at a big payday but what of the rest of us? Clearly, these dogs and the officers who use them need more training and there has to be real testing of dogs to make sure they are indicating for the right reasons and not prompted by its trainer. I'm assuming that with a 75% miss rate on indication, there are plenty of other victims who were not lucky enough to catch their "arrest" on camera.

absolutely time to brush up on your rights when getting pulled over

problem is, when citizens try to assert their rights and question corrupt cops it is a losing battle
    - the dude in the video was excellent at just obeying the officer and then taking action AFTER the incident…

most people though, the first thing they do is:

Officer: i pulled you over because i noticed you were blah blah…
citizen: “no i wasnt, you have no right to pull me over blah blah..

officer: “step out of the car please sir”

then we see the video where the cop arrests the motorist for any number of things

if a motorist can keep their cool and do just like this dude in the video, they can get paid eventually and maybe after losing a few lawsuits and/or $$ settlements- the dirty cops can be held accountable

I've seen those videos of guys who know their rights......right when the officer pulled him over, the driver should have asked "what unlawful order have I committed" if it was a traffic offense then the officer has 15 minutes to write a warning or ticket and let the driver move on. If the officer has su ion that a law is being broken, for instance, smuggling, then he has to tell the driver why he suspects there is illegal behavior going on.....for instance, he smells, or openly sees drugs...

There does not seem to be in the videos that this was anything but a fishing expedition the suit is alleging...

    yeah

you CANNOT approach any cop with that

because the cop will immediately make it his mission to arrest you and /or get violent

just do EVERYTHING the cop says- just like this dude in the video- THAT was impressive

he got grilled for 10 ing minutes and the dude answered everything respectfully, did not give the cop an at ude , did not whine and claim to be harassed or a victim

    nothing

he just complied respectfully even tho that cop was a corrupt dirty piece of conducting a 100 percent illegal search

i think i would have lost my cool and started challenging the cop and gotten shot and/or got my ass beat by 20 bcso deputies

The issue with doing everything a Co says is then the cop can say the encounter was consentual. Cops do that all the time. In Kentucky the officer says your free to go and then says oh BTW and starts questioning you. They then argue its consentual when they blow through citizens rights

There is also the deeper issue of how this was handled by the dept after....they basically told him to hit bricks with his concerns by internal affairs

Been almost a year now and nothing has changed

I think they were hoping he would crack and give them something but he never did

    unfortunately, most people do…
then they start ranting about, “i know my rights…”

    which never ends well

if the media was responsible, they would point to this video and show it often with a reminder for citizens to follow this motorists example and filing lawsuits after they follow this example to a T…

instead, they would rather show videos where the “black guy” mouths off, resists arrest, runs away from cops and gets beaten to a pulp or murdered

Law enforcement did what it always does when rocked by scandal: terminate a patsy and rebrand keeping executive power in place.

15 years ago Border Patrol had been exposed with serial rapists and violent sociopaths, that is wht they did.

Likely, but nobody has been terminated to date and you are right, the county trains these officers to push the limits of what is cons utional and what is not....that is why it is important for everyone to know their rights during traffic stops..

You know, whichever side you fall on in this case, its clearly a 4th Amendment case. Yet, it takes a non-profit to help this guy out?

They dismantled border patrol and the other problematic agencies and rolled them into this new DHS agency.

It was shortly after a couple of serial rapist officers had been exposed.

I have to disagree with this part...

i believe that they train officers correctly -

i also believe that SOME OFFICERS are corrupt and they themselves get lazy and look for ways to go around the law and use the law for their corrupt means

sooner or later they will get caught when their corrupt arrests get exposed

the training officers have a very real reason to train officers correctly - they have to avoid getting the dept ensnared in embarrassing litigation

whenever you see a video of a rogue cop abusing a citizen or being exposed on CNN as a criminal corrupt cop abusing his authority

NO ONE hates that more than the administration of that department because they know that there will be ENDLESS investigations of the dept, their training methods, their records, their other lawsuits pending, their inter dept complaints and whistleblower records, etc...

It's stupid to stereotype in general.

The issue is the lack of oversight and accountability just like everywhere else in law enforcement.

We need an amendment/law to make it impossible for the prosecutors who work with a particular LEO office to be the one that handles investigations and prosecutions into said office.

    agreed

sometimes the justice dept steps in…but that is usually when civil rights and/or federal charges are involved

but yes - NO law enforcement agency should EVER be allowed to police itself/investigate itself

    Hey RG...I been around...laying low.

Shocking that 75% of positive drug dog signals turn out to be false. there has to be a better way so that 3 out of 4 victims don't walk away like their rights have been violated
