Did he reveal who was the player that they are targeting to get if they successfully traded into 1st round?
- They actively tried to trade into the first round but no deal ended up materializing
- Keldon/Devin and other pieces of the young core were never offered in trade discussions
- When the opportunity to trade 33 for two future second rounders came about, they felt it was a good opportunity and so took the deal
- Osoko had been under consideration at 33 as well so they were thrilled when he was at available at 44
- Tre Jones is a RFA and they want him back, while Zach will definitely be back

I don't think I buy that the Orlando deal at 11 was with the Spurs. I think it was with Utah or another team in the teens.
I wonder where the other possible deals fell through. We'll never know.
If he's not obscuring their strategies a little, they traded the 33 without a plan for 44. They valued two probably worse SRPs in the future over picking there.
I wonder if they saw it as a calculated gamble that a player they liked would still be there at 44.
I think Givony reported it was with Toronto.
Forgive my ignorance, but what Orlando deal are you referencing?
OKC traded their 12 pick to Dallas to get to 10, taking on a bad salary. This jumped over Orlando at 11. Speculation is that Orlando was trading that pick to someone else and the Thunder swooped in to get the player that fourth team was targeting with 11.
Lol, if that makes sense. Said in another thread, word is that the team wanting to trade to Orlando at 11 was Toronto.
If BWrong thought the price to move up or back in this year's draft was too steep, just wait until the next few drafts when other teams know the Spurs are going to be desperate to consolidate their picks![]()
Feel like Bufkin was prob the target if we were trying to trade up in that 11-15 range. But who knows.
The firsts will probably be around 10-20 if they convey. We might see the Spurs start moving draft picks into the future. I haven't seen a draft list for next year yet but I'm sure some teams don't have any picks, so we'll flip some forward (including SRPs).
Wish we could know. Atlanta picking him at 15 was one of the stranger picks of the round. I wonder if they wanted Lively to drop. Or they just expect Murray to be moved. I do think Bufkin is a Quinn Snyder guy.
We could always trade a FRP for a couple of SRP’s. Never can have enough SRP’s. If 20 is good, then 30 is better.
Really it would be better for that Charlotte pick to convey as SRP’s. Then you can trade SRP’s for even more SRP’s. Maybe go for 40.
Wouldn't expect a GM to reveal that. I'm sure it was Coulibaly though.
Makes perfect sense. Thanks!
Yeah because they're so stupid... Or wait that the spurs use those picks to bring stars and nice role players then enjoy the fact they kept them to be able to do so and didn't spend two FRPs for Kobe freaking Bufkin or whoever...
I think the plan is clear now. They’re looking for a second star to pair with Wemby. They assessed who in the 2023 draft had that potential and tried to trade up high enough to get one of them. Nothing materialized; they failed.
The next step is to see whether anybody on the current roster will develop into a star. Sochan, Branham, and Wesley will get lots of run so the team can see what they have.
Next is the 2024 draft. If none of the current players pan out as secondary stars, the team will lose a lot of games again and draw another lottery pick. The Toronto pick will probably convey. Maybe they can package the picks to trade a little higher or maybe they’ll just take two swings.
Then they’ll see what they can develop for 2024-25. If things still aren’t coming together during that season, you could start seeing more aggressive moves to build at least a winning team by Victor’s third year.
Maybe they can get all the second round picks.
and he made it worse by adding 2 future second rounders
holt sees some good opportunity to make a few bucks
to my unintelligent self, it immediately signaled to me that Dejounte is 100% getting trades.
That's the most likely interpretation imo. But the Hawks could shock the world and trade Young instead if they're willing to bite the bullet. I can see reasons for both the Hawks and Wolves to accept a Young/KAT swap, depending on what other assets are involved.
DJ told them he‘s not resigning with the Hawks. Forgot where I read it, i think it was on hoopshype
The 'roster crunch' gets much easier next summer than now, at least potentially. Right now we have thirteen players (assuming they are all kept), not including Victor and Sidy:
Devin Vassell
Keldon Johnson
Jeremy Sochan
Zach Collins
Tre Jones (resigned)
These are 'core' players. If they are not kept, they can be traded, as they have value. Only Keldon seems likely to be moved. The next season will give clarity about fit.
Devonte Graham
Doug McDermott
These are the veterans whose shooting and experience can help, but no one expects them to be here long.
Sandro Mamukelashvili
Julian Champagnie
Blake Wesley
Malaki Branham
Charles Bassey
Dominic Barlow
Players picked up this last season whose fit or ability is unclear. It's easy to see Branham sticking. It's easy to see Barlow moving on.
A key issue right now is that the talent of the last group is not yet clear. They each have nice skillsets, but we don't know. The next year will tell. Added, we can see how Keldon fits. in a universe where every single one of these players 'hits,' we do face a roster crunch. More likely, we say goodbye to Barlow, a couple of the other second year players, and the two veterans. At that point, we know whether we need to aggressively upgrade certain positions.
On the other end, it doesn't make sense to add any players right now, even a FA point guard.
Pop interview was also cool
Most interesting tidbit was that he said the young guns had a great summer, i think thats something, so Im hyped on Vassell, Keldon, Sochan
