I never found Parker being a likable person off the court. He had and still has a huge ego. This ego has certainly helped him to have the kind of playing career he had but it isn't a quality in everyday life.
TP always ans still lack emotional intelligence, he's cold af

I guess that was what I meant by a new business model. For the second summer in a row, a presumed high NBA draft pick left ASVEL because they didn't see it as a developmental environment. If ASVEL keeps doing the same thing with highly regarded young players, the exodus will continue.
The issue isn't the business model but the coach (TP's brother!) who sucks and wouldn't help develop a young player

Well, it wasn't a breakup as clean/logical as that.

Parker has done a lot of great things for his team but he has also done some questionable moves. One of these questionable moves was, instead of hiring a great coach, to have his brother as a coach. Wembanyama's clan thought Parker's brother wasn't good enough to develop Victor and they left.

Wembanyama leaving ASVEL has had some bad consequences for them:
    - All the hype/money generated around Wembanyama didn't benefit ASVEL.
    - The NBA buyout money won't go to ASVEL.
    - Wembanyama's team beat them in french league playoffs.
    - Following Wembanyama's footstep, Zaccharie Risacher (current top 3 in the 2024 mock draft) is leaving ASVEL. Wembanyama shining so much with Mets after his relatively bad ASVEL season has hurt ASVEL reputation to form young players.

Parker is bitter and thinks Wembanyama and his clan screwed him. To me, while Wembanyama may not have been perfect, the main culprit is Parker himself. I doubt he will have the humility to admit it.
You guys are making more drama than you should... That they might not get along OK, but like billions of people don't That's just life, people make choices...

    Now to your points, Bruno:

    - A part of Vic NBA buyout will actually got to ASVEL (as a "forming" club) as well as Nanterre, his first club. while the Mets will get half of it $1M, which in their very precarious situtation , and I'll give you that, is precious.

    - The money Victor generated on his name for the Mets is extremely limited in a country where BB isn't a bankable sport at all... "Mets" name was throwed out there but that's about it, french ligue audiencce on TV is small and LNB rights are very, very low low... 2 years ago, they were actually almost free and broadcasted on some small cable channel since nobody wanted to buy them. Sponsors are local sponsors and Mets arena is like 4K max with pretty small ticket prices.. they didn't really make money thanks to Victor on that aspect of things, and are still in financial issues.

-The NBA payed $133K to buy LNB rights last year (entirely for Victor) and that money wasn't even redistributed to the clubs...

-ASVEL isn't a "forming" club but a club that needs proven/productive players who can hold their own in Euroleague... They couldn't make Victor his team and couldn't offer what Mets offered, being in Paris and basically existing for Victor. That's more Victor's (good) choice to leave than ASVEL's fault... No other Euroleague could have offered Vic waht the Mets did.. The mistake was actually more on Victor to sign with them to start withn which him and gis clan realized, probalby first attracted by TP's name and "aura"...

    - Nobody expected the Mets to have that kind of season, not even the Mets. They badly overachieved...

    - Risacher is following path because he understood he probably should'nt have signed with VASVEL either and it's better to have a supposedly smaller team with less pressure but more responsabilities...I expect now more and more french prospects to do that. Just like it's better for NBA top rookies to land in to a rebuidng team with more playing time and responsabilties than in a contending with much less of that.

That Parker wasn't happy about Vic leaving, probably, that they might not get along, probably, but none of the two owns anything to the other, they make their own choices, end of story. that's business and life... Again, more drama than necessary, this isn't a soap opeara.... Yes, Parker always had his lil ego but a guy who is friend with Boris, Tim, Manu, Pop, and close to vincent Collet too can't be a total asshole either...

Anyone who bops his teammates wife (and while married) tells me all I need to know. Tony has always had his issues because of his emotional intelligence or lack thereof. I still love the guy but he's always had his faults and I think many of us who were here back then talked about this too.

I think my question of, “why isn’t Tony at those dinners with all the other legends” is sort of being answered.

He's based here in SA, but has multiple business ventures in France. My guess is that he's not in town.

I remember back then there were fan-generated whispers about a supposed feud between Tony and Manu. Apparently that never existed.

This may be one of those.

Yea I believe he’s in France if I’m not mistaken. Mic e Beadle mentioned in her interview on the Rich Eisen show yesterday that Tony goes back and forth between SA and France a lot so I think she was suggesting he wasn’t in town for the dinner. Almost positive Spurs aren’t just ignoring him or leaving him hanging lol. He surely would’ve been there had he been able to be.

Can confirm via his IG that he’s in France right now partaking in his basketball academy that he runs over there. Nbd tbh. He’s already very familiar with Victor. I’m sure he’ll partake in future dinners when he’s in town.

I would keep Mamu (his feel for the game is off the charts, he’s fine for 10 minutes here and there) but to me Barlowe has shown less to be brought back. With VW now, I think we have less time to develop someone that raw. But we’ll see how he does in SL.

if they measured him at 3.5 it would typically round up to 4

not that it really matters. we know he's huge. that height without shoes is still insane. it was only as recent as 2019 when the nba standardized height measurements to be barefoot. a lot of the height figures we knew from back in the day were inflated

    Here’s the full quote fwiw:

When the Spurs issued their press release announcing Wembanyama’s arrival, they called him 7-3. So in the span of just a few days, he lost an inch.

    On paper, at least.

    Just like Duncan once did.

To illuminate those unfamiliar with the backstory: the shrinking of Duncan is a tale mainly about marketing. Back in 1997, as the presumed No. 1 overall pick coming out of Wake Forest, Duncan was measured at the NBA draft combine and checked in at 6-11.

But the Spurs were going to play him alongside 7-1 center David Robinson, and before they even made the draft pick, there were stories being written about San Antonio’s “Twin Towers” as well as breathless references to the team’s pair of “7-footers.” Even if that last description wasn’t completely accurate, it just sounded cooler — and more convenient — to let people refer to them that way.

So that’s what the Spurs did. Look at any media guide or team roster from Duncan’s first several years in the league, and you’ll see him listed at 7-0. And even though there’s a popular version of this story that claims his height changed right when Robinson retired in 2003, that’s not quite right.

As recently as in the official commemorative program for the 2005 NBA Finals, Duncan was a 7-footer. But when it came time to print the program for the 2007 Finals, though, he was 6-11, and he stayed that way for the rest of his career.
Part of that came from Robinson’s absence. With no more “Twin Towers,” there was no real need to stretch the truth anymore. Then there was Duncan’s longtime preference to be known as a power forward, rather than a center. To some, putting a “6” at the start of his official height made that argument a bit more persuasive.

With Wembanyama, the evolution of his official measurements could prove to be a bit more fluid, and not only because he’s the age of a typical incoming college sop re and might still be growing. Because he was playing in the French League playoffs this spring, he did not attend the draft combine, and therefore was not poked and prodded and weighed and measured the same way many of his fellow prospects were.

But on the day of his introductory press conference at the AT&T Center on Saturday, Wembanyama took off his shoes, straightened his back, stood still, and allowed his new employers to take a true scientific accounting of the distance between the top of his scalp and the soles of his feet.

The exact number, per a Spurs official?

    Seven feet, three-and-one-half inches.

All they had to do was officially measure him at 7'2" and his chances of a long career would go way up!

Somebody’s lying. If Rudy is listed at 7’1 barefoot, there’s no way Vic is only a couple inches taller. Just no way. And based on the eyeball test, Wemby looks closer to 7’5 than 7’3. Not that it really matters, but this sounds like a downplay tbh.

He’s clearly over a foot taller than 6’3 Adam Silver too. Wemby is huge. I’m guessing 7’5 barefoot.
