NBA Summer League 2023

As a Spurs fan, I would really love it if Blake Wesley, Malaki Branham, and Jeremy Sochan all solved the biggest flaws in their respective games by October. However, I don’t consider it “underestimating” not to count on it happening.

nobody said they will do that. But we basically have 11 players who will all add things to their game. If your entire rotation improves individually and the team doesn't tank that can add a bunch of wins

Watching the local news tonight they were interviewing Blake and he was asked what he needs to work on. He did say finishing and I was happy to hear he knows that.

Good. As I’ve stated in other threads, Wesley is the guy I’m keeping my eye on the most this Summer. He’s got as much potential as anyone on the team not named Wemby with his physical gifts. If he can improve (considerably) at finishing contested shots around the basket, he could be a really good player for us moving forward. He just has to do it. He’s got everything else.

Wesley has a great chance to get better. He seems to be a hard worker and really wants to stick in the league. I like the friendship he and Sochan and Branham formed as rookies.

I like him more than Primo. Wesley just needs to slow things down and make better decisions on the court, tends to rush things and get out of control. He plays with intensity so the effort is there.

You can't teach a guy with great decision making skills to blow by his defender. He came into the league with a chip on his shoulder. I'm super excited to see him play this year.

I need to get some summer league games starting already to cleanse the eyes after having to swift through all of those inane posts about Lillard trades and spurs blowing opportunities to burn money needlessly in free agency.

Branham will get his shots effortlessly in SL. Not sure what he'll get out of SL, unless they experiment with him as a primary ballhandler or just put on a display of getting in position and jacking up 3s.

Wesley I'm more interested in seeing how or if he has improved over the last several months.

Cissoko curious to watch how he looks competing against SL players

Wemby will be nice to watch play but honestly would rather he just not bother with the summer league play and just practice with the squad.

Im watching Wesley the most outside of the bigger ones like Wemby etc…lots to be excited about and watch but I want to see if Wesley has improved at all. He put on muscle and said he worked on finishing etc…

Want to see that in real time, want to see those defensive pops we saw at times this last season and want to see some improvement regarding half court decision making. Really interested to see how he looks and if he will improve enough to earn real minutes

Me too, but guys mature at different rates. If Wesley isn't ready, he is worth keeping another year in Austin. I don't think most of Spurstalk will be okay with that.
