Man is playing like hes trying to get paid
Victor would be fine. This is Champaigne summer league, just enjoy the ride.
Man is playing like hes trying to get paid
Rivers has a bright future in TV if he wants it.
He seems
Too slow to be a wing player
Too weak to be a big man
Too thin and tall to gain weight
There’s a reason why attacking the basket is difficult. Very tall, weak and slow means he can get bullied and picked on his move, so his skill can be negated by athletic ability.
He’s not even a great 3pt shooter statistically.
I know Spurs had to pick him, but I’m still afraid getting the #2 pick would’ve been better.
Scoot getting one on one training with a GOAT like this… he’s unquestionably going to be the second best player from this draft.
All the doubts and questions about him pre draft are going to look foolish tbh
Sam veecini said he has never seen him play so passive before. Maybe spurs fo told him just go light ?
If Wesley were a Hornet, Wemby would have probably set the summer league block record. All throughout the game he was getting his shot sent back the other way.
IMO, we need to ask TP to coach Wesley on how to finish in the paint, including the teardrop.
yup. I was actually watching him in warmups. He missed a dunk and then wasn't paying attention and ran into a teammate. Rough start before the start.
Spurs fans can be such clowns when it comes to preseason games. The NBA should just call them scrimmage games so people can stop over reacting. It's practice. Its the first practice game for Wemby with the Spurs. His stats are meaningless at this stage.
Wemby was told to keep it low key and don't get hurt. He did as ordered. Keep some perspective on a preseason game.
Hes 19its going to be ok. I don't know about austin saying he needs to gain about 40 pounds?! That would put wemby around 260 ish which seems a bit much
Kid needs to eat and push weights
He's in need of some muscle but let's just be straightforward here. His center of gravity is so high that he readily gets pushed off his spot by stronger lower center of gravity players which right now is most of the big in this league. It's why he won't be able to post up easily or drive easily. People will guard him EXACTLY like Draymond said. And he's going to have to adjust to it until his body allows him to gain some mass which is going to be tough for him right now.
He had 3 practices with this team. And basically they told him to isolate on the three point line and shoot threes or drive into crowds. He has isolation in his game, but when a guy like that has nerves, draw up plays to get easy baskets. Run a few PnR inside the three point line and have him roll instead of pop.
This would be ideal if you want to destroy his knees.
He needs to gain some upper body strength and naturally add on weight as his body matures. He doesn’t need to pack on the pounds.
this forum really showing its ass with these bull takes
Coming from a guy who abandoned his team until they won the lottery.
haven't abandoned wad.
take a seat
Oh yeah I remember a ton of your posts during the tank
Better order several so you will always have one on hand.
There's nothing many fans love more than the 5 second anecdotal evidence of a dunk highlight or an ankle breaker move on the perimeter. The fact that Wembanyama had 5 blocks, a dozen defensive dissuasions, and was +4 in a win where his shot wasn't dropping at all is never going to thrill people looking for the wow factor. The way Wemby becomes a generational player is by bending the opposing offense defensively with the same gravity that Steph bends defenses with his offense. He's already showing that. No highlight reel is going to show the many many times the opponent shies away from shot attempts, but if one attempt is successful, that's all over ESPN. Kai Jones' posterizing dunk was cute, but ultimately meaningless-- he took three shot attempts in 27 minutes. Charlotte's four bigs were a combined 7-23, and the team as a whole shot a 29.9 FG%. The point of Victor's ridiculous potential is that he can win games with just his D. When he adjusts after one summer league game and gets more attempts closer to the basket, his offense will be fine.
The kid needs to find his way and once he does things will be fine
lol son, just no.![]()
The only player I can remember with the same sort of physique was Ralph Sampson who was 7'4" and played at 228. He came out of Maryland with similar hype. He had a good first three years where he played 8e,82, and 79 games and then had injury problems that drastically reduced his playing time for the rest of his career. Medical staff have learned a lot since then, but bodies are bodies.
Let's all say a prayer for Wemby before and after every game, first that he not get hurt and second to give thanks that he came out healthy.
Let's see what adjustments are made for game two to get Wemby in better position for success.
