You mean Abdul Jabbar

What would you say about the concerns about his strength at this point?
Did you see an issue here in Vegas? No. People are wrong. We’re not focused at all on weights. I don’t want to put weight on his body. We’re going to fight to not put weight on his body. Weight on his body [is] a big mistake. We focus on strength, core. We were very pleased that he linked up [with] Jabbar who played until [41] years old. That’s the path that we want to take …
I’m very glad they, they connected because uh, have a similar body type. Kareem was not heavy. Victor is more mobile, gaudier and taller than Kareem. So, that difference in height is a challenge and is something that we are working on every day. Making him heavy? We don’t want to do that.
What do you think about the Spurs organization that Victor is joining?
Fantastic. One of the best DNAs and cultures in basketball. Coach Pop [Gregg Popovich]. I’ve been telling Victor that if Coach Pop coaches you for 15 years, you’ll have [those teachings] for all of your life. No one can push you as much as Coach Pop. I just want to be alive in four or five years to see how great he can be.
I don't know what relationship he'll have with Kareem. I guess it won't be that close, but who knows. But it occurred to me watching Victor in the post one of the reasons why Kareem used the sky hook so much. I've always heard it's because he wasn't allowed to dunk for a time, it was illegal. But it seems to be a good way of using the trunk of your body more when you're that tall and skinny. Turning, using your shoulder, more base against the defender using your base while not having to use as much energy in a turnaround jumper. Zach has a really nice baby hook. I wouldn't be surprised to see Wemby develop at least a little of one before long.
I like Zach tbh. Think his best basketball is still ahead of him if he can stay healthy.
Hope he has a long future with the Spurs. Think he and Wemby could form a nice, big, skilled Front-court together.
Zach and Sochan are going to play off Victor extremely well, the space he provides them around the basket.
Wasn't his name when he was drafted
It’s his name now, and for Wemby’s entire life,
You are right, my bad
He converted 1 year before he was drafted but changed his name after he was drafted
We were talking about number one picks in the NBA draft. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was named Lew Alcinder when he was chosen number one. Not really worth overthinking.![]()
Zach will look impressive playing next to Wemby. He‘s gonna get paid
Don't really care either way, but if you're going to make such a fuss about his name, AT LEAST GET IT RIGHT YOURSELF: AlcindOr
I did the first time. Voice text got me this time.
You seem overly incensed by the change. I'm just using his name. You're doing the Islam equivalent of dead naming him.
you're the one making a deal out of this
Not the only one who pointed out his error, and he's the one dying on this hill.
true, here is the other guy who pointed it out, after being reminded that he was still named Alcindor at the time he was drafted
this is "dying on this hill" ?and he's the one dying on this hill.
AL is dying on his hill by not simply saying "my bad". There is no former NBA player who is named Lew Alcindor who currently exists. It's not even a valid position to say that was his name when he was drafted. bbref lists the #1 pick of 1969 by Milwaukee as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. No one who isn't anti-Islam calls him Alcindor.
wikipedia
naismith listing the previous winners of NCAA player of the year
i probably would have referred to him as jabbar if i had made the post. but you are making a big deal where none exists and then accusing the other guy of being very angry
