The biggest draw for the weekend was a panel discussion with Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar moderated by Isiah Thomas
What are the chances we get video / audio of this sometime soon?

You're doing the Islam equivalent of dead naming him.
AL is dying on his hill by not simply saying "my bad". There is no former NBA player who is named Lew Alcindor who currently exists. It's not even a valid position to say that was his name when he was drafted. bbref lists the #1 pick of 1969 by Milwaukee as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. No one who isn't anti-Islam calls him Alcindor.
You seem overly incensed by the change.
This is the most desperate attempt at having a pointless argument (and projection) I've seen on this forum in a long time, and I usually post in the political forum.

It's good to see that Coach Nick noticed something I had seen too: when an opponent shoots, Wemby will often turn to look at the man he's supposed to be boxing out and is turned away from the basket and the ball. That looked so weird to me. Coach Nick put it well when he said that if you're the tallest guy on the court, just go get the ball. Don't take your eyes off it.

Other good points in the video
    • Wemby shouldn't be setting too many hard screens. He's top heavy and if he sticks his leg out too far smaller defenders will be hitting Wemby's knee with their thigh or butt. Too much of that is very worrying. This is on the coaching staff imo.
    • Wemby gets out of control sometimes while dribbling with "his noes in front of his toes" as Nick puts it. He will learn as he grows and this is something to clean up.
    • Wemby is extremely switchable, much more so than most bigs.

he's that rare breed that can just chase the ball and no need to box out, as he can literally just reach for the ball without making excessive contact that would draw an over-the-back call. its not like he's charles barkley out there needing to dominate the position to secure the ball.

on one hand, it looks concerning. but as he also mentions, this is also going to be a ridiculously easy way for him to generate high quality looks/touches. its going to have to be a part of his game, he's just going to have to learn how to set them effectively. might have to get lower. might want to be careful as to what scenarios he sets a truly hard screen, etc. but its going to have to be a big part of his game, imo

this is going to be a balancing act for victor if he's going to want to be a ball-handler. usually its tougher to be a ball handler the taller you are, because the dribble gets higher too. wemby compensates for that by trying to lean closer to the floor, but also by utilizing his wingspan, his hands are closer to the ground than a typical 7'4 guy would have. if he doesnt lean low, he risks having too high a dribble to be effective. if he leans over too much, he's going to have balance issues. he will figure out over time what his limits are, and that will dictate how much traffic he can navigate through

    • Wemby is extremely switchable, much more so than most bigs.
yep. even when it comes to those bigger centers we're worried about, those will only be a problem for him if they have enough time on the shot clock to execute a post up. if he switches onto a big like that with less than 6 seconds on the clock, they're not going to be able to get shots off that easily tbh

There's no way Wemby won't be setting all kinds of screens. The screen and roll is his most efficient play. You just can't take that out of his arsenal. He just needs to set them in a safe way.

If I were the Spurs, I would hire Scola just to teach him the "Scola screen", which basically is not screening at all. You just show up to the screen, and roll (or pop) a split second before making contact. Scola made a living out of that.

Victor should watch the classical centers of the past

    Wilt Chamberlain
    Bill Russell
    Arvydas Sabonis
    Kareem Abdul Jabbar
    Moses Malone
    David Robinson
    Bill Walton
    Ralph Sampson
    Hakeem Olajuwon

will learn a lot from them

I agree. I didn't mean to say that Wemby shouldn't set screens, just that he has to be smart about how he does it. Taking hard contact to the knees over and over is a recipe for injuries.

You have to set screens most of the time, or they just play you to slip the screen 100% of the time, and it loses its element of surprise.

Well, of course, I'm obviously not saying he should fake screen everytime. Just have it in your arsenal and use it quite often.
