i thought it had some promise. think the episode with the big banquet and the next one with the big battles were strong, and even the couple leading up to those episodes were fine. but
- my god, an entire episode of ciri in the desert. why?
- no development with the wild hunt (the ghosts chasing). they just appeared and never mentioned again
- all of them constantly splitting up. yennefer leaving to help the mages, geralt telling ciri to go by herself, etc etc
- scary fire mage guy who has been built up for over a season unceremoniously one shotted with a gimmick. not to mention the end of episode fakeout about who was healing his hands. very cheap stuff
by far the biggest problem with the witcher is that the world-building is ass. game of thrones, otoh, meticulously set up their world. by watching the show, you learn each of the big cities/kingdoms, you get a rough idea of the geography, each faction's motivations, at udes, how long it takes to get from one to the other. in the witcher, i have no clue where anything is. so theres nilfgard, and then is everybody else just "the north?" i have no clue. they name drop so many different cities, but i have no clue where any of them are in relation to each other, or what significance they have. its just a dull world
