War promotes climate change. I guess Biden neglects that important little detail. We're controlled by hypocrites.

The returns are not diminishing. Russia's military power is diminishing.
Ukraine was provided tens of billions of military hardware for this counter-offensive and the territory that has been taken back is a fraction of what was taken back in last years major counter offensive.

Now even US intelligence is leaking that Ukraine won't achieve its major strategic goal.

And don't kid yourself, Ukraine is taking serious casualties but still won't pursue a ceasefire.

We have over and vastly underestimated Ukraine and their military ability.
You seriously dont think Russia will use a ceasefire to replenish positions and push again for that country?
They have basically switched to a war economy. You really want to draw it out further?

Federal expenditures. You are trying to make this a fiscal issue so like with foreign aid I am putting it into perspective.

It was $5.3 trillion last year. We have given Ukraine $110b in ~18 months.
So what? US government spends money irresponsibly on lots of things that are bad investments; which of course has contributed to the massive debt and deficits and the beginning of the credit rating downgrades.

I was fine with most of the initial support to Ukraine, but I don't see a very good return on investment here anymore.

You can't guarantee that even if Ukraine kicks out Russia entirely that Russia won't rearm and try to invade again.

I think Russia has reset its ambitions after taking so many losses. Seems to me they want to lock in their gains but aren't interested in doing this whole thing over again.

What Russia did was bad for the vast majority of people on this planet.
It was good for smugglers and corruption in a number of countries.
But this still did it, and it is still on. Russia continues to feel more and more pain economically socially and politically.
Imo you give them time to reboot and it gets much worse.

Mexico, Canada and the EU are our 3 largest economic partners. I believe your kind of thinking risks 1/3 of that partnership which would be much worse than what we are currently paying. Russia has no other choices here but to create economic instability anyway they can while they can take a bit of a breather. I believe the thought of stabilizing fronts (this IS NOT PEACE) will make things much worse in the future. And I admit I am more of a long term thinker. Really bad idea.
They cannot be allowed to get off the mat now. Its not good for US.

It will be much more difficult because they can be degraded so much right now. Its much less likely.
There are also geographic reasons for this also, basically Crimea. Crimea allows the Russians access to replacement.
With Crimea NOW unstable for Russia it really cripples them. If Ukraine can keep damaging Russian shipping Russia will be forced to negotiate from a position of weakness.
    This cannot be understated.

Also what kind of signal does this send to China on Taiwan?

I knew when this started this was never going to be good for US short term.
This is a critical number of years imo. They have begun.
