Natural gas interests have lobbied against investing to upgrade transmission lines to deliver wind power where it is needed.
i'm old enough to remember when Greg Abbott said new reforms fix all the flaws.

    maybe he was being ironic.

Following deregulation of major portions of the electric market in 1999, Texas’ “energy-only” electric
market operated as designed, with lucrative compe ion keeping electricity prices low. With the various
market participants and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) generally managing the
grid, the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC) never had cause to take a step back and consider
how things were working, how it might improve operations, or what funding and staff may be needed
to do so. Winter Storm Uri completely changed this dynamic. In February 2021, Winter Storm Uri
exposed unacceptable vulnerabilities in the state’s electric grid. Critical electric and water utilities failed,
almost 11 million Texas homes and businesses lost power or water for days, and tragically, more than
    200 people died.
In response to the disaster, the Legislature completely overhauled PUC’s and ERCOT’s governance
structures and made numerous changes to the electric industry and market. To keep a close watch on
the implementation of these significant changes and identify other needed changes to their operations,
the Legislature also moved up the Sunset date for these en ies, as well as the Office of Public Utility
Counsel (OPUC), two years to 2023.
    https://www.sunset.texas.gov/public/...ts_6-26-23.pdf

After the 2021 winter storm, the Sunset Commission was tasked with analyzing the oversight of the Texas grid. They have been reporting pretty consistently over the last couple years and this is the latest from last June.

If you are looking for an informed opinion on the matter this is one of the best resources.

Yeah one of their things with ERCOT was improving public outreach. They are not talking to the press. They know better but they still suck.

Yes, it's a 50/50 chance on whether we break Barry Bonds today, and after today it's unlikely we get another 100 degree day until next summer.

Airport says 99 at the moment, TWC still saying forecast high of 101 at the airport though.

Nope we hit 100 and Bonds goes down. Still possible we get another 100 degree day or three thrown in next week since NOAA has tomorrow and Thursday forecast at 98 and Wednesday 97.

Got an extra half month of 100+ over its closest compe or. This summer has been like the 2008 Celtics running up the score in Game 6. I'm still not counting out another heat dome weaseling its way in and taking us back to 103 for a week before the month ends though. We have had 100 degree days as late as September 26th and this summer isn't respecting old records anyways.

Not impossible. Though I don't believe SA has ever had a 100+ degree day in October.

the 2008 Celtics running up the score in Game 6.
That was a glorious evening, the next 2 years not so much.

I'm no Mavs fan by any standards, but that one afternoon in May 2011 was sure fun to watch too, especially when the losers started getting dirty with the cheap shots, proving the true colors of that dirty franchise

Even as a big LeBron fan I was rooting hard for Dallas to win it all after the way they decimated the Lakers. Game 2 of that Finals is one of my favorites not involving the Spurs, just awesome seeing Dirk pull a Tim Duncan / Hakeem Olajuwon and get on that run and win a le without an allstar teammate. Considering San Antonio has had a 100 degree day in February I think no month is safe though.
