That hopefully puts an end to this convo. I also believe that the Lakers would have matched.

One team rumored to have considered such a move was the Spurs, with Reaves envisioned as part of a team being built around Victor Wembanyama. Reaves, on the Lowe Post Podcast, admitted the idea of playing with Wembanyama had an allure, but he both expected and wanted the Lakers to match any offer.
"...You know you hear things, and obviously with Wembanyama, like, you know so much upside with him, you know, your mind kind of just wonders into that basketball world what that would be like...
"I didn't think that there was any way that the Lakers didn't match whatever was offered. They pretty much made it pretty clear that they would match whatever. At the end of the day, I wanted to be in L.A. I love it out here, love the organization, the fans. Obviously, I wish that I could've got as much money as possible, but like I said, fit and opportunity, here in L.A. was really what we wanted and really where we wanted to be."
He got what he wanted. The most the Lakers could offer Reaves is what they gave him: Four years, $53.8 million, with the final year a player option.
That hopefully puts an end to this convo. I also believe that the Lakers would have matched.

He's a smart, heady player, and he definitely makes the Lakers better. Their FO isn't awesome, but even they were smart enough to recognize the intangibles that he brings to the organization.
nice, but there will definitely be better players down the road that are going to want to play with Wemby.
Dude absolutely wanted to stay in LA if you hear the whole podcast. He did not sound enthusiastic about being in SA, though he wanted SA to sign him to a bigger contract because he knew Lakers would match.
And perhaps SA knew he didn't want to take his talents to the SA Riverwalk, so they didn't even bother going there.
The FO knows these players don't actually want to play here.
I mean he's said this since right after he re-signed. If the conversation wasn't ended then, it won't now. Until folks stop getting meme value out of bringing it up, they'll keep doing it.
We're only 3 years away from our next chance to sign Austin Reaves. Def need an ongoing thread tracking our next superstar.
Yep, anyone who watched the playoffs can see this. He is definitely a good player.
He's identified as Laker fully.
There will be no transitioning to Spur.
None, ever.
I forbid it.
Robert Horry says o...
False equiveillance.
Bob had already been a Rocket and fully denounced his identifying as Laker.
Altho now that he is back in that environment as an announcer he has become corrupted, true.
and the spurs should’ve made them pay premium for it
