    This.

I would be a pretty terrible head coach, but on day one I would sit Vassell down and tell him to never take that shot unless the shot or game clock is about to expire. There will always be something better.
to be frank i feel the same way about basically any wembanyama 3 unless he's wide ass open, able to get his feet nicely set, etc

our guys are way too complacent and take shots that would be acceptable quality if the clock was winding down

You guys should chill and let wemby get his nba legs…

also there will be a learning curve for this unit to adapt to wemby freelancing out there …
it has never been done before and it will start to slowly improve…

There is no offense. I have no idea why Pop is doing this, but it makes no ing sense. This is the same coach who would yell at 3 hall of famers when they didn't do what the system demanded and now with a team that is young AF we've just abandoned having a system at all? Wemby standing in the weak side corner like he's Bruce Bowen is ing insane. They need to run some action to get him some mid ranged shots. I don't care what the action is, but this man's shot chart should not be all 3 pointers and nothing else while we watch him stand completely away from the action.

Have you noticed that a good portion of Wemby's missed threes are in & outs? He's missing cuz he's in doubt rn, not because he can't make them.

No kidding. People here balked at the idea but I would kill to have CP3 running PnRs with Victor. Tre Jones looks like prime CP3 compared to the other creators on this team

Yes. People can handle the idea that Wemby doesn't want to play the way a lot of us thinks he should be playing. He's called that style of play "limiting". More than it just being that he doesn't want to do it, he isn't good at it at this point because he didn't practice it. That's why he's not rebounding at the rate you'd think he should and why he is bad at setting screens. It's why he doesn't know how to operate in the post. Dude wants to be a perimeter player. The issue is that height will only ever mean so much. Teams have 6-10-plus guys who can affect most things Wemby does out there. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Wemby's best lineups are with him as a single big. I don't want him bodying up on big centers, but I do think he should be an inside presence. The real question is if Victor is frustrated because he's not able to do well playing the way he used to or if he's frustrated because he thinks his performance is due to the coaching staff not putting him in a good position.

i dont always see eye to eye with DAF86, but we were both advocating for cp3 over the summer

i was also hoping that lillard-miami trade would happen so that could open the possibility for a lowry acquisition. this team badly needed a veteran point guard who knew what he was doing, would hold people accountable, and could shoot

I hope the people ing about entry passes have been paying attention to the various passes that have been done so far in this game. There's a very clear difference between what a real post entry looks like and the one folks think guys are turning down.

Paul still would've been bad. The only good would be that it would be a sign that PATFO thought structure was needed. There is a big gap between finding a guy who can run an offense and finding a guy who will micromanage an offense. They had many ways of getting a guy to fit in the middle but thought Sochan, Jones and Wesley would be sufficient.

Im giving pop the benefit of the doubt…

sure, everyone is losing their minds because they want to see the spurs play TRADITIONAL ball and i get it…
but pop is looking ahead and he already committed to allowing wemby to freelance and study him and see what he does and what makes him comfortable - FIRST

and then after 10-20-30 games pop will have ideas about what is possible in this new age style with the nba’s unicorn

    or

    worst case scenario- IT FAILS

and pop can then have a youngster who realizes he needs the coaches help and is ready for a traditional system instead of just freelancing

but geez you guys are nervous whiny wrecks- just chill

it will be awesome if it ends up working

Sure, having Chris Paul running this "offense" would make it seem better than having Tre or Sochan run it, but there's no actual structure so its at best a bandaid. It doesn't matter who you run out there if you don't put the players in positions where they can best succeed. Right now everything Wemby does that is good is simply due to his raw ability. Pop is doing absolutely NOTHING to put him in positions to succeed on offense. This offense has taken steps BACKWARD.

Just incredibly frustrating. There's a reason we're scoring ~20 points per quarter and its not the point guards.

This is some ugly basketball. On defense, no one knows how to move their feet, and there is no help defense. On offense, the ball movement is nonexistent. Not one Spur looks like they should be starting on an NBA team.

    Answer this question:

We actually have to be running a real offense first
