The loss of Vassell is huge. Of course it is, he is our leading scorer.
The one positive is that it happened so early in the season.
Just move Jones to the starting lineup.
Jones, Johnson, Sochan, Collins, and Wemby
Spurs Injuries: Devin Vassell - Out (Groin)
Raptors Injuries: Precious Achiuwa - Doubtful (Groin), Christian Koloko - Out (Illness)
The return of Jak. Will they give him a tribute? I honestly hope Collins have a great game. The Raptors are favored -3.5. But I expect the Spurs stepping up without Devin. Keldon will have a big game before a home crowd. Wemby will show last game was not a fluke. Let’s go Spurs! Spurs by 12 points!![]()

To me, this is the obvious answer.
People are calling for Champ to start, but he is redundant in the starting lineup and would only hold back the other guys.
Wemby is better when Jones is on the floor, and let the other guys cook. Champ can come off the bench.
Id rather they start Cedi and keep tre jones destroying 2nd teamers
I would honestly start Champ and keep Tre on the bench, to keep that productivity off bench. Pop did the same thing in IIRC 2015 season when he started CoJo to keep Mills off the bench and that worked out fine. Might help Champ regain that confidence and help the team long term, while still getting Tre’s contributions off the bench. That’s just me though.
Starting both of the PGs doesn't seem like the obvious answer. It feels like a recipe for the Spurs to run units without either guy on the floor. With whom is Champ redundant? The only person really would be Vassell, but that's the person he's replacing. I've made my point on Graham clear, and I do think in the event they start Jones that Devonte should get the nod over Wesley to be the next guard off the bench. But any of the deep-bench guards make more sense than Jones, assuming Sochan is starting no matter what.
Branham is expected to get the start.
Makes sense because it keeps Sochan and Jones split up (even though they'll still play more together sans Vassell), while also providing more ball handling than a Champagnie or Osman would.
I think people are just recognizing a pattern that Pop has used in the past, to leave the rotation bench intact, and reach deeper down for a temporary starter.
Champagnie can play and needs to be awaken with this opportunity. He is a baller and has shown he can string 3’s together. But that was pre-season and lesser defender. Still I like Champagnie here.
Branham thrives when he has the ball and expected to score. He needs to work it out with Tre and continue to solidify that bench rotation.
Obviously Champ isn't a suitable Vassell replacement, we don't have that on the bench.
But he is 6'8ish guy who doesn't really post up, likes to shoot threes, and can sorta pass the ball.
Kinda sounds a lot like Sochan, Keldon...and to an extend Wemby but of course he is on a different level size-wise and talent-wise.
I understand the need to keep Jones on the bench otherwise that unit could also fall apart, but I also don't want our starters putting us in holes to dig out of. I'd rather they build a lead and then let the bench try to survive it.
I expect a down game. Guys will be furious to show they can fill in die void Vassels injury created...and I don't think this is a good thing, as they again will miss Wemby while open.
Other than that Toronto has the lenght and defensive chops, that we might not like...see Clippers.
Branham is due for a breakout (maybe Champ also).
Not surprised Branham got the start but im with Chinook, spurs should put Graham in there and let him do his thing. dude's been glued to the bench thus far and if we ever intend to utilize his contract then needs to get some time on the floor. if he leaves for nothing in the offseason, that White to Boston trade is looking meh in hindsight until possibly 2028
Need to get the W here to make sure we get a high pick from the Raptors. Hard to predict afternoon games though, most players rhythm is off in these type of games, so I expect it to be ugly.
Branham explosion game incoming. Wemby with 25/10/4
Can't wait to see how this goes.
On paper, Raptors are well-equipped to deal with Wemby, way better than Suns.
Siakam, OG, Barnes and obviously Jakob protecting the rim.
I think we'll see more of those lineups with Wemby at C to pull Jakob out of the paint.
Poodle's first game back in SA
Spurs should win this one. Raptors are 2-4 for a reason and they need a PG worse than we do tbh.
A reasonable hour for a change! Go Spurs!
