Short of using nukes, I wonder whether the US and Israel are capable of overthrowing and pacifying Iran. The US hasn't been able to pacify Iran's much smaller neighbor, Iraq, in 20 years.

The fact that Iraq in some sense is Iran's proxy would hardly have been thinkable had not the US invaded Iraq. The strategy of wrecking countries we don't like has already been strategically counterproductive.

Also, US ammo supply and readiness are not what they were 20-30 years ago. These two factors could be objectively limiting.

I would go for a Yugoslavia. Bomb the out of them, weapon factories, presidential palace, etc, keep pounding and pounding. Just make it patently clear we don't like that regime just as much as they don't like us.

Going in as 'liberators' like Iraq and Afghanistan would be a mistake. Works out too to stop the drone supplies to Ukraine, tbh

EDIT: The issue with this approach is that they have oil, and so the usual suspects would prefer and invasion.
