It's good for the viewers and TV ratings but bad for the legitimacy of the sport
A 1-loss Bama team will never be left out. They have 1 Undefeated season since 2010
Georgia is better then UT and Alabama too. But they tell you it's about what they do on the field. If it was any other non-OU big 12 team instead of Texas they would definitely not have gotten in.

Yeah. Alabama was undefeated and didn't make the playoff when Tua got hurt.![]()
They should just go ahead and announce that you need two fewer losses than a SEC team if you aren't Michigan or Ohio State.
Neither of us are winning the le this season
And we beat you last time we played. FSU will always be better than Michigan in football.
I don’t agree with this. UGs all world TE being injured was a big problem for them.
And the UG defense is definitely not as good as prior years. Alabama beat them, it’s not like it was luck.
Always be?
Michigan has been around forever. Michigan has more wins and a higher win percentage than FL St will ever have.
It’s not even close.
Hey you were an Arkansas fan? What happened?
I know. Wolverines are arguably the greatest waster of talent in CFB History
I knew this logic was a possibility but am still surprised the committee went with it.
Honestly, I would have had Florida State at #3 and Texas at #4. (you can't deny the win against Alabama on their turf, Period.)
^ Committee is talking from both sides of their mouth. FSU should be #3 or #6
They went in the room, locked the door and said we have to get a SEC team in the Playoff. Now how do we move every other piece around to minimize the outrage.
Hardcore CFB fans noted how ESPN started pushing the "this is a different Bama team" after the LSU game. The writing was on the wall, they had to create a backup plan for IF Georgia lost the SECCG
I'm not surprised or mad. Most long time fans of the sport figured this is how it would play out. "Atleast next year it's expanding" is how programs like Clemson justify it.
Spoiler alert: bunch of FSU players will skip the bowl game resulting in a loss
Bama will beat Michigan
And everyone will return to being satisfied
Oregon barely beat TT. UT absolutely curbstomped the Lubbock trash.
Next item of interest:
All that has been written about the playoffs will be used as justification AFTER the games are played.
Example if the playoffs are close and exciting very compe ive games:
See! I told you FSU did not belong. Look how great the games were!
This is an argument that makes me ill. This site excels at this bs.
Or even if FSU gets beat in a bowl game. See they did not deserve!
That’s not the point, the process is being questioned. The above does NOT make the process valid.
And I am saying this knowing we are more likely to see good games with Fl st. left out.
Damn shame FSUs QB got injured.
Just as big ashamed was Louisville throwing the game and making FSU look not as good.
This should be a cake walk for Alabama now.
Hail Mary was full of grace once & again.
Do not forget, that the starting S for Texas will miss the 1st half against Washington because of the targeting call in the Big 12 Championship game.
I am absolutely stoked right now. We beat Baylor, KSU, Houston, TT, TCU, and finished off OSU. We also beat Bama in Bama....the only two negatives was losing to OU after being ahead with 90 seconds left in the game and losing Brooks for the year.
s
Now we get Washington. We can not only advance to the Championship game for the first time since 2009, but we can also get revenge for the Alamo Bowl loss to the Huskies.
6th year starting QB and he played worse than a freshman. He was absolutely horrible. Yes, the FSU defense was outstanding, but his decision making was as if that night was the first time he picked up a football. At least the FSU QB had a legitimate excuse for his poor play.
Where was Lamar Jackson or Teddy Bridgewater when they needed them?
Baylor fans will tell you that the committee will overlook head to head wins if it puts a favorite team in the playoff. The point is that the committee will deny whatever helps them meet their ends.
I don’t think it was “planned” to f*ck them over. UGA loses by 3 and fell completely out of the top four so I don’t think they really take into account how far one falls whenever there’s a logjam at the top.
I kind of assumed they’d get it in by being an undefeated P5 team but given the cir stances I understand the decision
UT has the opportunity to request Derrick Williams (the true FR safety) sit out the first half in the first game of the 2024 schedule.
We need that guy to play immediately against Washington. He is by far the most athletic, fastest safety we have. That position is THE biggest weakness on our entire team Imo. By far. Only thing Williams lacks is experience. Dude can make plays the others can’t touch.
Huge recruiting get away from LSU. Sarkattack!
They moved FSU down for seemingly no reason a couple of weeks ago. ESPN then ran several headline articles of prominent people saying that it would be an injustice not to have an SEC team in the playoff. Someone in this thread did a "Well Finebaum says Alabama is the best", when that's literally what that little is paid to say.
I'm sure there were a lot of prominent people saying that it would be an injustice not to have an undefeated P5 conference champ in the playoff, but nobody from ESPN submitted the story.
Someone was getting ed.
There absolutely was a logjam at the top. Very good point. So yes you expect a big fall. It happens more frequently in the first part of the season but little attention is paid to it.
Plus Georgia got to a point in the 2nd half where Alabama stopped the run and Alabama receivers started defeating Georgia 2ndary. Sabin 4 for 4 against Georgia in conf championship. That hurts.
