these guys just need to come up with a hard, quantifiable algorithm that takes everything into account and let it be known to the public how it works. Kind of like my back of the envelope math I came up with yesterday in 5 minutes. That way there's no debate. This whole committee voting and "eye test" crap is just going to keep making them look like a$$es. It's 2023 and the US has shifted from a "high trust" to a "low trust" society post COVID. Everything is always going to be turned into a conspiracy, this subjective voting needs to stop

Here is the algorithm: Alabama>SEC>Ohio State>Michigan>Texas>Oklahoma>everyone else. When there is a choice, that's how they roll. I'm certain they considered dropping Georgia to 4.

At least in future years with 12 teams, while of course some team will continue to get F'd, any team that was legitimately close to the best 4 will be easily in.

I've been going over this in my head since everything was announced and I'm convinced there really was no good solution. Florida state is undefeated and they deserve to be in. Georgia is definitely a top four team in the nation. UT beat Alabama and they deserve to be in. The other undefeated teams deserve to be in. The good thing is we get 12 teams next year and we won't have to deal with this again hopefully.
I think the one team that has the least argument might be Georgia since they didn't win the conference, just like Ohio State.

I don't see how you could keep Texas out since they beat Alabama at home and by a decent margin. Alabama never loses at home.
HS football playoffs in Texas can be a total joke. Valley View high, record 3-8, got into the playoffs with a runner up 2-3 record in district. Then got beat in a tournament 1st round like 43-0. The tournament (playoff) cant even fit on a reasonable sized computer screen. And the number of tournaments based on school size has progressively grown. The aforementioned team was a 5A division II team with 64 teams. 5A ALSO had a division I tournament with 64 teams. There are 12 different tournaments. This is the NCAA basketball tournament on steroids where teams with a horrible season get in. Then follow the complaints about all the Dallas and Houston teams getting put in their own quarter of the tournament while South and central West Texas get their own quarter and never win. There are gripes about all playoff systems.
Imo when the regular season becomes inconsequential and playoff teams can sit players after they have clinched it further cheapens the regular season. Teams sit players giving their opponents an easier path.
Its a mess. My personal opinion is that a regular season loss in college football should be devastating. When UT lost to OU I thought thats basically it. No conf championship, and definitely no dream of CFP this early with a clearly better football team. Im not gonna stop watching though. Personal taste I guess. I dont want CF to be like the other ridiculously large tournaments.
Ya, I don’t see the argument to have UGA in since they lacked any signature win. Their best win was a 9 pt home win against Missouri
#1 ranking is meaningless when you have a logjam at the top. They were just #1 by default since they were the defending champions but that should have no bearing on this season.
I'm not gonna keep 3 undefeated teams out so it's between Bama and Texas. Bama beat the #1 team in the country in their conference le game. Texas beat Bama early in the season.
