Lack of border safety/initiative is a Western phenomenon.

We will fund and even get involved in border conflicts overseas but leave our own people helpless.

economic migrants do not qualify for asylum.
The asylum process is there to sort that out. It's underfunded and understaffed relative to border enforcement.

Trump didn't give a about stuff that could work, just rhetoric and symbolism -- like walls that don't work.

Fully funding e-Verify would be cheaper and way more efficient than a wall, but I guess the promise wasn't solving a problem, it was WALL.

SB 4 could very well increase that percentage.

    https://legiscan.com/TX/text/SB4/id/2851390

Deportations of U.S. citizens occur much more frequently than commonly understood. According to Jacqueline Stevens, a professor at Northwestern University and founder of the Deportation Research Clinic, about 1 percent of all people detained by ICE are U.S. citizens, and about one-half of 1 percent of all people deported from the country are U.S. citizens.

    From 2019, but still relevant:

US citizen detained by ICE for three weeks.

Now that ICE can detain people without a warrant anywhere in the US, it might be a good idea to start carrying your papers, you know, in case someone wants to check if you belong here.

“I presented then with his original birth certificate and other do ents and they ignored them. So now I’ve faxed over all the do ents to the ICE agent handling the case,” Galan said. “He’s going on a full month of being wrongfully detained. He’s a U.S. citizen and he needs to be released now.”

From the commies at the Cato Ins ute

Biden is better at getting rid of border crossers than DJT.

According to new data published last month, the Biden Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has removed a higher percentage of arrested border crossers in its first two years than the Trump DHS did over its last two years. Moreover, migrants were more likely to be released after a border arrest under President Trump than under President Biden.

In absolute terms, the Biden DHS is removing 3.5 times as many people per month as the Trump DHS did. These figures are important for understanding how each administration has carried out border enforcement.
During the Trump administration, DHS made 1.4 million arrests—what it calls “encounters”—in fiscal years 2019 and 2020 (24 months). Of those people arrested, only 47 percent were removed as of December 31, 2021, which includes people arrested by Trump and removed by Biden, and 52 percent were released into the United States.

Under Biden, DHS made over 5 million arrests in its first 26.3 months, and it removed nearly 2.6 million—51 percent—while releasing only 49 percent. In other words, the Trump DHS removed a minority of those arrested while the Biden DHS removed a majority. Biden managed to increase the removal share while also increasing the total removals by a factor of 3.5.

like the authors say, it's complicated, but on average immigrants pay more in taxes than they consume in public spending. they also pay for Social Security benefits they may never receive.

Immigrants have a more positive net fiscal impact than that of native‐born Americans in most scenarios in the Updated Model and in every scenario in the Cato Model, depending on how the costs of public goods are allocated. The Cato Model finds that immigrant individuals who arrive at age 25 and who are high school dropouts have a net fiscal impact of +$216,000 in net present value terms, which does not include their descendants. Including the fiscal impact of those immigrants’ descendants reduces those immigrants’ net fiscal impact to +$57,000. By comparison, native‐born American high school dropouts of the same age have a net fiscal impact of −$32,000 that drops to −$177,000 when their descendants are included (see Table 31). Results also differ by level of government. State and local governments often incur a less positive or even negative net fiscal impact from immigration, whereas the federal government almost always sees revenues rise above expenditures in response to immigration. With some variation and exceptions, the net fiscal impact of immigrants is more positive than it is for native‐born Americans and positive overall for the federal and state/local governments.

it's doubtful the GOP will be able to pass a tougher bill or find a more conservative Dem to sign it than Joe Biden

It's the same old . Either have a 0 policy, or, leave it like it is because otherwise, it's 6 of 1, 1/2 dozen of the other.

Native Texans are more dangerous than immigrants and even more so than illegals-- no contest, really

Light and Purdue University sociology graduate student Ty Miller used state-level immigration data from the Center for Migration Studies and the Pew Research Center spanning 1990 to 2014, comparing undo ented immigration rates to an index of violent crimes — homicide, rape, robbery and aggravated assault — kept by the FBI. They also examined the impact of undo ented immigration on violent victimization rates from the National Crime Victimization Survey.

All told, the researchers examined annual rates of migration and crime-related factors such as unemployment, age, gun availability and drug activity for each of the 50 states and Washington, D.C., over the course of 24 years — more than 1,000 discreet time periods with which to weigh the effect of undo ented immigration.

“The direction of the relationship is fairly clear,” says Light. “They’re all negative.”

More undo ented immigration meant less violent crime. According to the study, a 1 percent increase in the proportion of the population that is undo ented is associated with 49 fewer violent crimes per 100,000 people
