top 4 defense with him
Bottom by large margin without him
^^^
Crazy
Not only the stats but he is better with where to be on the floor offensively and defensively !
His blocking became better with that as I said it would. He became fantastic shot blocker and quality of those blocks are higher then it used to be
Also his % FG and 3pts became legit. Esp. his 3pt%.... He is respectful 3 point shooter.
All those progressions in such relative short time are crazy.
His biggest holes still strength to a great degree /minor progress/ and quickness under the basket.
Overall though - the holes I was mentioning some months ago became much more shallow. Beyond my expectations.
Spurs defensive rating this season (per 100 possessions) Per NBAWorld
114 WITH Wembanyama on the court (Would currently rank 5th in the league)
124 WITHOUT Wembanyama on the court (Would currently rank WORST in leage history...A record the Spurs currently own from last year with almost the same roster EXCEPT Wembanyama.
If youve been on this board for the last 3 years or so, you guys know this is where I hang my hat on criticism of the Spurs and Pop specifically. So what does it say that our defense has regressed even worse with these same guys over last year when Wembanyama isn't on the court?
It says we've gotten worse. And it says something has changed and failed with how Pop coaches these kids, and the standard he holds them to.
I'll say it yet again...THIS TEAM WILL NOT IMPROVE ON THE WHOLE UNLESS AND UNTIL WE IMPROVE DEFENSIVELY (WITHOUT WEMBANYAMA ON THE FLOOR TO HIDE THE TEAM'S INCOMPETENCE.
Wemby may finish 2nd in DPOY this year, and then win it for the next 10. Amazing.
DPOY aside, if Wemby doesnt make an all-defense TEAM this year, and only makes it for the first time next year, he'd still be the youngest player in NBA history to make an all defensive team
But spurs are small market. . . .
That has nothing to do with Spurs's market size, for now at least, but novelty and curiosity about something ppl've never seen before.
It won't have the same impact long term and no, SA isn't the ideal place for Wemby to become the face of the NBA.
Especially as long as Pop will be the boss
Not really fair for Slo-Mo Fathead to be guarding him 1:1
when he decided to launch that i was legitimately expecting an airball tbh![]()
That's ing nuts![]()
lol thinking the views has anything to do with the Spurs. It’s clear people are more Wemby fans than spurs fans.
Can you imagine if the spurs had Amen Thompson instead? He would be looking so average while guys like Mr. Body will start threads like “I’m all in Amen, who needs Trae Young?”
lol thinking the two notions contradict. Who is the face of the Spurs?
There is a very good chance that he may finish 1st in DPOY this year. Advanced stats like EPM rate him 7th best -

.. but there are qualifiers.
The top six are Isaiah Hartenstein (Knicks), Xavier Tillman (BOS/MEM), Marcus Smart (MEM), Jonathan Isaac (ORL), Joel Embiid (PHI), Alex Caruso (CHI).
Of these Hartestein, Tillman and Isaac are mostly situational players. While Smart hasn't played enough and Embiid will not qualify because of his injury and the low of games played.
Only Caruso will truly contend against Wemby (and Evan Mobley and SGA aren't far away).
I guess voters will also take into account the team's overall defense and that is what will hurt Wemby but I genuinely think that if the choice is between Caruso and Wemby it has to be the latter for overall impact.
I thought Gobert was the favorite to win it
pop and watch with minutę restriction
Gobert is the best defensive player in the best defensive team in the league. And thats why he is the favourite probably, but advanced metrics show his numbers aren't as good as Wemby/ Embiid/ SGA/ Caruso/ Mobley.
A lot of ppl are fan of Wemby but dislike the spurs. Many watch him despite the Spurs
I hate the Mavs but enjoy watching Luka
If Victor took Gobert's place with the Wolves, do you think their defense would get better or worse?
I think A LOT better, clear le favorite even.
It wouldn't get too much better but it would be better.
Offensively, the T-Wolves would be entering a golden age unseen in the history of basketball, though, so their defense wouldn't matter nearly as much.
