I'm not sure what you mean by "wasn't directly murdered" and what qualifies according to you. I know he had been poisoned badly before, so it's not inconceivable he had a vital organ or something that was failing and finally gave out a result. We just don't know. But Budanov is an intelligence guy, so maybe he does know something we don't.
