If we signed Reaves to a contract just to monkey with LAL, we couldn't have done the Bullock trade.
This is wrong, but even if it was right, OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

His contract is appropriate. No reason to tie him up in an over pay. I’d guess LA woulda walked away from a 80 million plus offer.

la would of NOT walked away. They where saying they would match any amount offered. The main goal was to force la to use more their
cap on austin reeves so it would be harder for them to sign future free agents.

They can say anything they want to run perspective teams off. I really don’t think they match 80 but perhaps.

There’s no way they would have matched 100 million dollars plus deal.

Either way I’m fine not having 80+ tied up in Reaves.

Again, his current contract is performance appropriate.

Oof, I can see some user with the red circle with a slash with Reaves photo in it, if we had signed this guy for 100mil.

I mean he’s playing better than Vassell of KJ so realistically he wouldn’t be our issue.

Reaves is a solid role player, it's just that Lakers are so desperate for a #3 they're trying to convince themselves their role players are better than they actually are.
Re is doing him no favors with this point guard experiment, he's obviously not one.
18/4/6 on 44/36/81 is good for a role player, the issue is that he's atrocious defensively, I'd say even worse than Keldon because Keldon at least has strength.
Reaves has been figured out and everyone will keep abusing on defense until Re s figures something out.

He's still definitely worth those $13M a year, the issue is that if we were to get him, we would've had to offer at leats 20, if not 25 a year, which would make him a negative asset.

I mean we pay a backup SF 20 million a year and a 3rd string PG 10 million a year. I wouldn’t even want Reaves right now anyways so I’m not arguing. I just want order in our team and I’m tired of not seeing any.

It would be great if CP3 just took over our team tbh

If Reaves ain’t worth a 100M then Dev is really bad at 130M. They have very similar career shooting numbers but Reaves has triple as many assists and twice the FT attempts while playing 60 games a year to Dev’s 50.

Reaves is unplayable in the playoffs. He’s going to get cooked every time. So yup we dodged a bullet paying a starting salary for him. If only they had the same clairvoyance on Collins who’s not even sniffing minutes now, and damaging his stock for decent return on a trade. Oh well.

Can’t win them all! Zollins salary will help in a trade scenario at this point, all is not lost!

reaves has been a good player in the playoffs though and with heavy minutes, averaging over 36 mpg. ... particularly in 2023 he was a very clutch shotmaker for them.

the lakers last 2 years theyve been eliminated by denver. im not sure how much of those losses fell on Reaves. some of it does... there were times he was defending jamal murray who has gone off against them, but they typically would just have reaves on KCP/MPJ/Bruce Brown and D-Lo was the primary on Jamal

to be fair, in the past i dont think teams have attacked Reaves as relentlessly as they have this year. but its weird to say he's unplayable in the playoffs when his playoffs track record is quite good

Haha, came here to say exactly this. If we'd given Reeves $25MM a year instead of paying Vassell, we'd have a better player for cheaper... so not really seeing a lot of room for a victory lap here.

thats also assuming we gave him the complete max of 25mm on a 4/102 contract, and not just something like 4/88 or 4/75 that would have cleared the lakers max offer anyway, and forced them to make a tough choice to match
