Did any of the others considered in the running for GOAT in any sport have a 1-17 stretch?
Knute Rockney
Vince Lombardi
Bill Bellicheat
Bill Walsh
Red A
Phil Jackson
Philly
Pat Riles
Nick Saban
Bud Wilkinson
Johny Wooden
And he'll hit 20 imo. I'll do cartwheels if Wemby is able to overcome him ala Timmy Dunker and win at least one with him.

He’s been blessed to have 2 generational players fall in his lap. Reminds me of the Packers going from Favre to Rodgers to Love. Although with the Pack it was much more impressive since none of those guys were slam dunks like a Luck, Peyton, Lawrence or Caleb.
A monkey could’ve drafted Duncan or Wemby #1
Only a tanking monkey
Not sure what you're asking. Pat Riley finished his career with 1 ring in 17 tries. Pop rang in 2014. That's 10 years. Unless you think Pop is going to coach until 2034, I don't know where your headed with this (shocking I know).
I get you hate the coach but your reasoning is usually devoid of facts. Maybe this is why no one engages you seriously. He's considered best by his peers and players. I don't think fan opinions outweigh that.
I'm starting to shy away from him as well, Lue, buddy.
Pop 2008 - 2024 and beyond.
When you have the most stacked or one of the most stacked rosters in the NBA vs what he did is.....
Not GOAT by a long shot.
Riley did not have near as much to work with after he left the Flamers.
I don't believe that.
At all.
wtf

DD has consistent very solid takes. Just because he does not see Lamar Jackson clearly and does see Pop 100 clearly is no reason to refer to him as "no one".
Ditto GAustex. Many others.
I'm all about quality over quan y anyway.
You could benefit greatly from scotts thread on "I was a Sniffer". Many others have.
Why can’t poop get good free agents
If he is all that
LMA fools gold
Finley
Berry
I am sure I am forgetting a stellar free agent signing
Oh forgot
Zollins
Pop was done since 2014 tbh. Spurs could have gotten by the clippers the next year if he didn't act all cute with his Hack-A-Jordan move while the Spurs were actually up by double digits.
Then his fascination playing a watered down, finished Tony Parker. Refusing to blow up the team after Kiwi left (although sniffers will tell youbut it got us wemby).
He's so lucky the Spurs got Wemby, as it put him back in the good graces of casual Spurs fans. But even so, he made Wemby's rookie season more miserable than it needed to be with his mad experimental lineups. Oh and lol old fart telling fans to stop booing an opposing player because "that's not what we are."
As usual, if the Spurs win its because they have the best player (Duncan, Wemby) and not Pop and his overrated, antiquated style of coaching. but the casuals will still say his coaching made those players who they are, and not the other way around. I'm still hoping he steps down soon, but his ego and that soft front office won't let him.
There's no logic in what you're saying. Manu was drafted 57th, Tony 28th. That they both developed into HOFers under Pop is a credit to Pop, not a detractor. I mean, DaVinci had the Mona Lisa to work with, one of the greatest paintings ever. He's not really that good obviously.
The players will say Pop made them who they are. Echoing that here isn't newsworthy.
Then who are you talking to in the OP?
Popped tried to "reign in and stifle" GNobs play.
It took Manu almost two years to develop Pop to stop being a meddling. talent blocking control freak.
"As time went along I learned to not speak as something was contested or a shot was contested or a defensive play he wanted to make to get a steal or whatever, because he does things that win games. It taught me to watch a little bit more and not be so micro-management-like."
Christ-a-mighty, Mult, your first cogent post in 2 months of Sunday's. Congratulations, son.
This is how great coaches think. Unlike Doc who throws his players under the bus instead of taking any accountability.
You: Pop won because he had all time greats
You also: Pat is an all time great coach but didn't win because he didn't have all time greats during that time
Lue & Mult center ring throwing hay makers at each other like in rasslin',,,till one of 'em becomes energized, actually ENERGIZED by said hay makers...Let's watch!
I have nothing else to say. If someone wants to hate a coach who has the most wins in NBA history and 5 championships in 6 tries, that's their right.
Johny Wooden said it best and you could learn from it.
When asked what was his best coaching job what did he say?
The 88 win streak teams? One of the teams with Lew Alcindor or Billy Walton?
Nope. He said it was a 60's team that had below .500 expectations but worked their butts off and applied his team strategies. Went somethin like 16-10.
Point?
Popped had the best player of his era and best roster 10 times, minimum. He got 5 Chips out of that.
Prawk prawk so he won 5 when Mr. Schnider the school electric teacher and part time coach would have also won 5.
The other 5? Lets hear you Poppers spin.
"best roster 10 times"
You're not to be taken seriously
You underestimate Timmy Dunkar, GNob, Parker all in their primes. David Robinson older but still with plenty of juice and influence.
Bob Horry, Bruce Bowen, many more.
Seriously good players.
