Wemby certainly added some muscle - very difficult to do, especially during an NBA season. We have one of the hardest workers in the League, who also happens to be one of the most talented as well. Top1 player incoming within 3 seasons, tbh.
JCrawford went to San Antonio just to mentor this kid. I love this
Do we really want JCraw mentorship though?![]()
For skills training? yeah. Wemby is a specimen in the lab. You can add any component to this specimen. If he his handles can improve further, he would just be unstoppable. The ball will be in his hands a lot going forward. Keep adding magic tricks to his arsenal and we’re golden.
So damn excited to see the leap Victor takes in year 2. Considering how much he improved just throughout his rookie year, it’s scary to think of what he’ll do with a full offseason. It’s great timing with the Olympics too…will only further help with development.
I’m a homer but I really think he could be knocking on the door of being a top 5 player in the league next year.
Spurs really really need to add some talent and really really need to trade away the dead weight on this team….
Wemby is not ing around and is not waiting for year 3 or 4…
he is ready to take the mantle NOW…
undoubtedly. legit one of the 3-5 best ballhandlers the league has ever seen. its not like he's going to tell wemby to go suck ass on defense
Let's see how his stamina is. Dude is not ready to play 40 min game in a playoff series yet.
getting to top 5-10 is as much about consistency as it is about greatness. the passing he showed toward the end of last year, and the expected improvement in shooting gives reason for optimism. but to get into that tier of player, the conditioning will have to be there, and the turnovers just have to come down. i have no problem with him figuring out his limits, but thats what its going to take for him to break through
and minutes only ramp in the playoffs. jokic consistently averages 33-34 mpg, but last 2 years in postseason he averages 40mpg
i dont think wemby is there yet, and i dont think its a realistic expectation for this coming season.
you have not been paying attention…
in 1 season he went from being gassed in 2-4 mins and maxing out at 20-25 mins per game…
to
playing thirty plus minutes and dominating while he was on the floor
he got stronger and stronger as the season came to an end…he also got hungrier and hungrier and grew in intensity as the season ended….
he is going to begin the season with over 30 mins pr game and if he carries that extra muscle with ease- the league is ed
As long as he doesn't pass on his ball-hogging and style over substance tendencies, tbh.
Crawford was a mini-microwave almost everywhere he played…
he would come off the bench and heat up instantly
also he will help wemby get to the ft line…
The fact that JCraw wants to work with Wemby speaks volumes. It's not like he's looking for players to mentor. The fact that Wemby wants to improve his handles also speaks volumes. He's already top 5 bigman dribblers in the league.
Wemby is bending the prism of basketball reality. Keep healthy and keep on growing. I've never seen anyone like him whatsoever.
Apparently he added bulking sessions after games. Jamal Crawford witnessed it after a game when he wanted to talk to him
Amazing dedication
I was wondering, how does that work technically?
Do the Spurs pay Crawford + accomodations for a few days?
Just for free and lives at Victor's?
It's not even being a homer
The thing is most ppl when talking about best players have the offensive game in mind.
Wemby might not reach the top5 in that area next season but the unreal impact of his defense makes him almost by default Top3 (I REALLY wanna say top1 tbh)
You can see how Luka's defense mitigate his overall level, Jokic's game is starting to be understood and well defended as we saw vs the Wolves. etc
What's your top5?
Crawford brought his son with him and I think that was the trade. His son looks really happy he met Wemby in the pictures.
If there was one player I would want my 7 "5" center who likes to handle the ball a lot work with...it would easily be Jamal Crawford.
yes I want Victor working with Jamal Crawford. Dude has Kyrie level handles.
Jokic/Luka/SGA/Giannis/Embiid. I think it’d be difficult for him to break into that tier, but I mean it’s absolutely possible. He’s almost certainly going to be the best defender in the league next year…even just making some modest improvements offensively in terms of efficiency and cutting down on turnovers and he’s going to be in the discussion though.
spurraider21 said it but I think the biggest thing is just consistency. Wemby had stretches of games as a rookie where he legitimately looked like the best player in the world, but there were also plenty of stretches where he clearly looked like a rookie (which is to be expected, the kid is 19/20). I think those other 5 guys I named are just more consistently great night in and night out but it’s entirely possible Wemby takes a large step forward and joins them. That’s just such an insane expectation for someone Wemby’s age in his 2nd season but if anyone can do it it’s him![]()
He's bulked up a bit but there is no way that's 20lbs of muscle![]()
Oh my gosh he traded his son for a chance to train him!
Hard to know 4 sure, without taking lower body into account. Need Wemby to drop trou and post a speedo pic... for research purposes, of course.
Muscle weight gain can look deceptive, but 20 def feels like a reach.
